Black and White: The Effect of Color on Heat
Physical Science students investigated the effect of color on heat. The materials used were a piece of black construction paper, a piece of white construction paper, a candle, and an electric light bulb.
The procedure is as follows:
1. Light the candle. CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN USING AN OPEN FLAME. Let one drop of wax from the candle fall on each piece of construction paper. Blow out the candle.
2. Hold both pieces of construction paper exactly the same distance from an electric light bulb. On which piece of paper does the wax melt first?

Question to Ponder?
If you want to keep cool on a hot summer day, should you wear dark-colored clothes or light-colored clothes? Why?
