Originally
from North Dakota, Shell Bauman began his professional career under the
directorship of former Bob Fosse dancers Eddie and Kathy Gasper. He then moved
on to Dayton Ballet, under the direction of Joffrey-star Dermot Burke and then
the Chautauqua Ballet and the North Carolina Dance Theatre under famed Paris
Opera star Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux and his wife, New York City Ballet's Patricia
McBride. Mr. Bauman has performed principal roles in the works of choreographers
George Balanchine, Anthony Tudor, Paul Taylor, David Parsons, Robert Joffrey,
Gerald Arpino, Septime Webre, Alonzo King, Salvatore Aiello, and Mark Diamond,
among others. Mr. Bauman was with the Ballet Austin for three seasons. In 2004 he moved to California where he made his LA debut working with Julie Taymor and the LA Opera/Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts as the lead Egyptian dancer in last years Aida which he also performed with the Palm Beach Opera. You may have also seen him in Grendel, Reprise! Broadways Best classic On the Town, the Musical Theater West productions of Never Gonna Dance and Guys and Dolls, or as Jackie in the Musical Theater Guild's staged reading of Lippa's The Wild Party. He also had a starring role in the quirky ShagWithATwist. This summer he was fortunate enough to perform in The Sound of Music at the Hollywood Bowl. Shell is a proud member of the Actors Equity Association.
