BELA AS DRACULA

DRACULA

This movie is by far the ultimate king of all horor movies purely for Bela's perfmance. Bela's sinister performance, ghost-like agility as he moved across the screen, and diabollically haunting personna created a character easily recognizeable in 6 of the seven continents. It is hear we met the Van Hesling's, the infamous vampire hunting family, whose existance gets Bela a tad tweaked.

Even now in this modern day of horror, Dracula stll holds that same haunting feeling that it held when it was first released. Never meaning to be outwardly frightening, it gained its place in the horror clasic hall of fame by just being disturbing. Classic horror forever will be superior to modern horror in the art of subtilty. There is no neeed for thrill after thrill in this movie, but instead a slow winding plot that bothers the mind.

DAUGHTER OF DRACULA was indeed Draculas much lackluster sequel. Later, Bela did return to his role of Dracula in the movie ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEETS FRANKENSTEIN. This movie is discussed more on my Horror Movie Spoofs page.

It i unarguable that DRACULA made Bela into the cult hero he is considered today. He never could quite shake his horror image, and therefore upon his death date, he was buried in his Dracula cape, as per his request.
