On the parish recordm Mary Ann Willis shows that her father was Thomas Willis, but in fact Mary Ann was the illegitimate daughter of Harriet Willis. It is known, however that a few months before Mary Ann's birth (in the 1851 census) Harriet was the housekeeper to Thomas Bint/Bent in Reading, Berkshire.
