~HERSHEY GARDENS, PA~

On their way back to NYC, V and Mike visited The Hershey Gardens in PA.

The gardens opened to the public in 1937 with a 3 1/2 acre rose garden.

Today there are 23 acres of botanical displays, including rhododendron,

dwarf and weeping conifers, hollies, and dramatic specimen trees.

Mike directs us to the Seasonal Displays.

In April and May, the seasonal display is filled with daffodils

and other spring flowering bulbs, as well as forsythia, magnolias,

and ornamental plums and pears.

Then in June, the Garden's 7,000 rose bushes are in bloom.

The Gardens feature summer annuals, herbs, and perennials

during July and August, and in September and October,

they feature the chrysanthemums and late season ornamental grasses.

Another view of the Gardens.

This time the Miniature Roses.

A very special historical structure was added to the Gardens to create

the Butterfly House. The House's iron trusses, which were part of the framework for the

original greehouse built in 1930, support a butterfly mesh enclosure.

Over 500 butterflies representing over 25 North American species inhabit this historic structure, and carefully

chosen butterfly-friendly plants provide their food.

A colorful scene of ornamental grasses, annuals,

and perennials.

Mike and V are back in NYC now, getting ready for their next adventure.

Stay tuned for more photographs from these two youthful globe-trotters.

Don't forget to sign the guest book and thanks for the visit.
