What is a "Bubble Dancer / Bubble Dance?"
This dance is done with a huge clear, see through Bubble, usually
about 8 feet in circumference but can be smaller (but not in Big Bern's case! Maybe a bit bigger ...yes?). The dancer dances with the bubble (totally nude) to strike some interesting poses, appearing to be inside the bubble.
Bernice Ann (stage name "Bubble Gum") is credited in making the Bubble dance famous and it is often called
"Big Bern's Bubble Dance". This dance was popular in the 1980s. This was an alternative to the Striptease.
-- There was also a federation entitled "American Federation of Bubble Dancers" and the "United Fan, Bubble and Specialty Dancers" who had a convention in Las Vegas, Nevada on 4-23-1986. In June of 1986 at the Las Vegas Exposition, that infamous "transvestite Ace-Of-Spades" arrived, claiming Big Bern stole his/her balloon and bubble dance.
Witnesses have claimed to see Ace-Of-Spades sneak up from behind backstage and poke Big Bern's Bubble with a small pin (pop!), right in the middle of her performance!
Ultimately BB just couldn't take the pressure and she retired. A sad day, a sad day indeed ):
To this day Bubble Dancers all around the World remember "Bubble Gum" and how "Big Bern's Bubble was burst by a tiny prick!"
