Title: Forgiveness among friends Author: CelineV Email: celinke@hotmail.com Rating: G (Oh so G), but there are a couple of dirty words. Summary: Wesley doesn't have a friend in the world. Why? Good question. Is it entirely his fault? Spoilers: Before the eps "The Price" Season: End of Season 3 Archive: Sure, just let me know where. Disclaimers: I don't own Angel or any part of this universe. If I did, well there would be some changes! I love Joss Whedon and company!!! Thanks for letting me play with your toys, Joss! AUTHOR'S NOTES: Feedback is welcome. Many thanks to Katriena Knights for biting the stake and beta ing this story for me. It took guts to do it. This is my first Angel fiction and I hope I did it right. The raven-haired woman came in through the doors of the Hyperion Hotel. She stopped just inside and looked around the lobby. She smiled the place looked just like what she had in her head. She smiled. The place looked just like what she had imagined in her head. It made her laugh. She hadn't been in Los Angles in years. She didn't really like it down here in Southern California. Fred and Gunn came out of the office when they heard the door open. They stood on the office side of the reception desk. Fred had her hair in pigtails, and wore a nice t-shirt T-shirt and blue jeans. Gunn wore his yellow long sleeve shirt and the white Dockers--one of Fred's favorite outfits of his. "Can we help you?" asked Gunn. They watched the woman in the blue t-shirt and blue jeans, as she stood there not far from the front doors. "Yes, I would like to see Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, please," said the woman, her green eyes sparkling. "Um," said Fred, "Wesley doesn't work here any more. You could try at his apartment. Do you know where he lives?" The woman looked at the couple strangely, seeming to take it all in. "Yes, I know where he lives, so I'll go over to his place then. Thanks for your help." She turned around and went back through the door. 'Why isn't Wesley working here anymore?' thought the woman. 'The last time I talked to Wesley, he was still the boss of Angel Investigations. What could have happened to make him leave a job that he really loved?' Fred looked up into Gunn's face. 'Geez, I hope that was the right thing to do?' thought Fred. Angel could have helped her if we had asked the right questions. He smiled, and she stopped feeling bad that they may have lost a new client. Angel came down the stairs followed by Cordy and Lorne, "Did I hear the voice of a new client?" Angel asked. "No it was someone looking for Wesley," said Fred. Cordy and Lorne took a step back. Angel still wasn't reacting well when Wes' name was brought up. Angel stared at Fred and Gunn. Words seemed to escape him. "She just asked for Wes, then left," Fred said nervously. "That is ok, Fred." Angel smiled. "You guys can relax. I am not going to hunt him down. I don't think we will ever see him again," said Angel as he walked towards the office. "OK, so let's see if we can get this place buzzing with clients." Cordy and Lorne followed Angel into the office. Lorne. ~~ The raven-haired woman stood outside of an apartment building. It was an old building, but it was a classic. Just the type of place the ex-Watcher would choose to live in. This was the last address she had for Wesley. She walked into the building to look for him. Wesley had gotten up with the worse hangover yet. Ever since he'd lost his job at Angel Investigations and almost lost his own life, he had been drinking very heavily. He hadn't even done that when the Watcher's Council had fired him and stranded him. There were times he would have loved to go back in time and tell to council to stuff it when they told him he was going to be the Watcher of the Slayers, Buffy and Faith. Why did Americans give their children such strange names? Especially Buffy. What a silly name. Oh well, it all was in the past. He made his way into the loo and looked for something to make the pain in his head go away. He had somehow managed to get into his pajama bottoms when he went to bed--or at least one leg of them. The rest dragged behind him. Tired of dragging them around his ankles, he pulled them all the way on. Not that it mattered how he was dressed. He was alone in his apartment. No one ever came over to see him, except that bitch, Lilah Morgan of Wolfram and Hart. She was still after him to join the firm. He would rather have had Angel kill him... He would rather have died at Angel's hands than work for those servants of hell. Looking into the mirror, Wesley saw that his eyes were bloodshot and that he had 3 or 4 days worth of facial hair. Wouldn't his father have just gone over the top about his appearance? Opening the medicine cabinet, the ex-watcher ex-Watcher, ex-rogue demon hunter, ex-PI (he had a lot of exes in his life. Oh, his father would have had a field day with yet another failure in his son's life) looked for something to kill the pain. Opening a bottle, Wesley shook 4 pills into his hand and swallowed them without water. Closing the cabinet door, he leaned his head on the mirror. Hopefully the pills would kick in VERY soon. At least the apartment was quiet. Then the banging on the door started. Wesley almost jumped out of his skin. Then he grabbed his head. The noise was killing him. He ran across the apartment and pulled open the door just to make the noise to stop. "WHAT!" said Wesley, louder then he meant to. "Hello, Wesley," said the woman. "You look like hell." "Katheryne?" He opened the door just far enough to show his face. "What are you doing here?" "Yes, it's Katheryne. You are still British, right? Since when are the British so rude?" said the woman. "Um," said Wesley, turning his head toward the apartment itself. The apartment looked like he'd had way too many parties here, and had forgot to clean up after any of them."I am still very British, Ryne. It's just that I wasn't excepting guests." He pushed open the door for Ryne to see in. When she saw the apartment, she smiled, and moved closer to Wesley and kissed him on the cheek. "I'm here now. I will fix everything. Haven't I always?" said Ryne. "Yes, you have," said Wesley as he stepped back and let her enter the apartment, following her as she walked to the sofa. Sitting down on the sofa after she cleared a spot of the newspapers and other clutter; Ryne moved it to the floor. Wesley just pushed the stuff off the sofa so he could sit down next to her. "Contacts, Wes? They look great on you. Glad you finally came into this century. You've even done something different with your hair. Now you don't look like a librarian from the last century," said Ryne, staring at Wesley. Fear flashed through Wesley's eyes and he moved his head so that Ryne couldn't get a good look at his neck. "What is wrong? I went to the hotel and was told you don't work there any more. You are the boss, so why don't you work there?" asked the woman. "Katheryne, I really don't want to get into it at the moment. Please let it be," said Wesley. "Oh?" Wesley knew her tone very well. It was the one he he'd heard all his life from his father. "Ryne, please. I can't go into it right now. I will tell you some time. I promise. I would ask you to stay here with me, but I am in no shape to be entertaining a guest," said Wes as he stood up from the sofa. "Wesley Theodore Wyndam-Pryce, since when am I a guest in your house? I am your family. Now tell me what the hell is going on or I will go back to the hotel and get the information from them!" Wes knew she was very serious about going back to the Hyperion and making them tell her what was going on. Ryne had stood up and was looking at him more closely. She was going to see the scar on his neck any second and then he would have to tell her everything. "OK Ryne, I will tell you everything, but you have to promise me, you won't try to get even. I know you well enough to know that you would try to make other's others pay for everything. Do you promise not to hurt anyone?" asked Wesley. "Why is it I feel like I am going to be sorry that I am going to go along with this?" she asked. Wesley just sat there and looked at her. "OK, Wes, I promise, I won't go out and kick anyone's ass over whatever you are about to tell me about. Make you feel better?" Wesley raised his chin up and let Ryne see the scar. "What the hell is that?" "Someone cut my throat. I will tell you everything, Ryne. Just sit down and remember your promise." "I knew this was going to be bad," said Ryne as she sat back down on the sofa again. Wes told his cousin Ryne about what happened with the prophecy of Angel killing his son, Connor. How he had planned on taking the boy away to protect him. How Holtz and Justine screwed him over and took the baby. Justine had cut his throat. How it took forever for someone to find him and then get him to a hospital. How Angel tried to kill Wes with a pillow in the hospital. Wolfram and Hart was after Wesley to join the firm. Since then, how Fred was the only one that came to see in the hospital. That was it from the gang from A.I. No one else came to check on him or see if he was still alive. As Wesley told his story, Ryne listened and took mental notes. Make A.I. pay for what they did do for Wes. Oh, she wouldn't break that promise to Wesley, but there were ways to get around it and then Angel and friends would know what it was like to be at the wrong end of a Wyndam-Pryce! Find this Justine and make her sorry for cutting Wesley. Teach Wolfram and Hart that when a Wyndam-Pryce says no, they mean it. Of course she would do the job that Wesley asked her to do for him. "Ryne," said Wesley. "What are you doing down here?" "I came down to do the wards at the hotel for you," said Ryne. "Payment was received for the job. I am sorry that it took so long to get here." She smiled at her cousin. Wesley's head still hurt, but now the rest of him started to hurt too. Families could do that to you. It was one of the reasons Wesley liked living here in the States. He was far enough away from his family to feel sane; they were far enough that he knew that none of them would just appear at his door. Thank the Maker for that one. Ryne was Wesley's closest living relative to Wesley. She never bothered him all the time he lived here. She stayed on the mountain with her son in Washington State. Ryne had gotten up from the sofa and went into the kitchen. She came back out with a broom. Wesley turned to look at his cousin. 'Lord, she is going to put me to work!' The man just closed his eyes and prayed that this was all a dream. Ryne held the broom like she was going to sweep the floor. "Clean thyself and be done with it. I have to spend time with my cousin Wesley." The apartment was cleaned with Ryne's magic. Every item was in it's its place. No papers piled up. No TV dinner trays piled up either. "Now Wes, it looks like we need to go to the store and get us some food. I will go back to the hotel tomorrow and do the wards. Then we can go back to my place and you can recover from your accident with Justine." Wes didn't look too happy about going out into the real world. "Ryne, do I really need to go out with you?" said Wesley "I don't really want to go out in public like this." "Wes, you must not hide away from the world. You have nothing to be ashamed about. You are a good person and a good soul. Even if you cheat like hell at darts," said Ryne with a smile. "I don't cheat at darts, Ryne!" said Wesley. He looked at her and saw the smile. "You are such a brat. I don't feel very well today." "Well yeah all the bottles of whisky I found in the kitchen, I wonder why," said Ryne. "Look I will go by myself then and you just rest. The pills you took as I arrived will kick in a little bit. Your head should feel better very soon." Ryne brought her right hand up and she was no longer in the apartment. "Nice trick," muttered Wesley as he lay down on the sofa. "Hey Wes," said Ryne. Wesley sat back up and saw no one around. "Ryne, where are you?" "I'm down at the store. I just wanted to know if you would like some cake for dessert?" said the voice of the woman out of nowhere. "Sure Ryne if you want to get some," replied Wes as he lay back down back down on the sofa. "Cool, I will get a cake for us," said the voice. "I will be back in a few minutes." "All right," said Wesley, as he lay down--but he already did this down on the sofa. Some time later, Wes thought he heard humming in the kitchen. Sitting up, Wes could see Ryne in the kitchen putting things away. He lay back down and fell back asleep. Ryne walked into the front room and saw that Wes was asleep. The sleep would do him good. She waved her hand over him to make sure he was a sleep. Moving back into the kitchen, Ryne started to look through Wesley's pots and pans. She found a Dutch oven pot. She put it on the stove. She took out a small bag and brought it over to the stove. Laying out the objects, Ryne turned on the stove to get the Dutch oven warmed up for the magic. First she would do up the protection wards for the hotel. Then she would do a special little thing for those fun loving bunch over at Wolfram and Hart. What she had in mind for them would just make their day or should she say week! Then she would cook up something for that Justine person. Yes, she had everything she needed to make life in LA interesting for lots of people. Ryne smiled and started to work on the wards. After all the magic was done, then she would cook Wes a home cooked meal. He did look like he needed it. ~~ The security at the Wolfram and Hart building stood there in disbelief. The lobby was filling up flower petals. They poured down from the ceiling. Head of security was getting calls that the elevator shifts were filling up with something that looked like chocolate pudding. The stair wells were filling up with something that looked like peanut butter and strawberry jam. Security had called Linwood Murrow to tell him what was going on. He said she would send a cleaning crew to get the stuff out of the building. Most of the security guards were getting sick for the over welling smell of so many flower petals in one place. The smell was making everyone running for the bathroom. ~~ Justine had left the bar around 1 AM. She had picked this place because no vampires came here. When she arrived back at her car, she found it was filled up with something. Carefully she opened the door and it spilled out on to the pavement. Justine bent down to look at the subtest. She got a smell of it and moved back away from it. She tried very hard to keep from throwing up. It was the one thing in the world she hated more then vampires, banana pudding. How in the hell did it end up in her locked car? Justine looked around the parking lot to see who was about. She saw no one around. Looking at the car, she had no idea how she was going to get the stuff cleaned up. ~~ Ryne moved about Wesley's front room after she got her cousin to sleep in his bed and she would sleep on the sofa. Pulling out a small container out of the bag from the kitchen. Putting it down on the coffee table, Ryne opened it up and let three mice out on the table. Waving her hand over the mice, "John, Rich and Mel, I am so sorry to take so long to let you out. It took me awhile to get Wesley to go to bed in his room. The tall thin, long hair mouse sat on his back legs, "It's was terrible in there Ryne. Mel was farting and John wanted to read poetry to us. I thought I was going to have kill myself to get out of there." "Don't start Rich. I told you I ate something bad. I also said I was sorry about the farts," said the short fat hairless mouse. "You two stop complaining. Ryne brought us here for a reason. So what is that you want, Ryne," said the dark hair mouse. It's alright, guys," said the witch. "I need you guys to go over to a building a keep a spell going for a week for me. You can't go inside the building. I afraid that there might be something in there that might eat you up." "Where do you want us to go, Ryne?" asked John the dark mouse. "To the office of Wolfram and Hart," said Ryne. "ARE YOU INSANE?" yelled Mel and Rich. "That is why I said don't go inside. You just have to stay close to the building for the week. Then you can go back to the HQ for a nice rest and enough cheese for a year or so," said Ryne. The mice grouped together and talked to each other. "OK Ryne, we'll do it, but we better get more then just cheese for a year for going near the offices of Wolfram and Hart. That is a very evil place," said Mel the mouse. "Good," said Ryne. "I will take you over to the building tomorrow and set the spell up so you can keep it going for a week. So you three can sleep with me tonight. Mel that means you keep your paws to yourself or I will remove them your body." Looking down at the mice. "I am the perfect mouse, Ryne, you know that," said the hairless mouse. "I hope you aren't believing this one, Ryne?" said Rich. "I am going to trust you, Mel," said Ryne. Lying down on the sofa, the woman lay out her hair to one side and held out her hand to the mice. They crawled out on the hand and the hand moved over to the hair. The mice jumped out on to the hair and dug down into it and curled up and fell asleep. Ryne covered herself with the blanket and fell asleep herself. ~~ Ryne got up at sunrise. Giving the mice some cheese, the woman placed the mice in a pocket and made herself disappear from Wesley's apartment. She reappeared in front of the building of Wolfram and Hart. Taking two of the mice out of her pocket, "OK Mel and Rich, you two are up. As long as you stay here for 6 more days, the spell will keep going. After that you will go back to HQ." "What about John?" asked Rich? "John is going to keep another spell going for me for a week," said Ryne. "Remind me to stay on your good side, Ryne," said Mel. "Don't worry Mel, you will," said Ryne as she and John the mouse disappeared. ~~ Ryne and the mouse appeared next to a car at a repair shop. Walking over to a window, Ryne held the mouse up to see in. "John, you see that female?" asked the woman. "Yes," said the mouse. "That is the one that dislikes banana pudding. She is the one that get to live in it for the week. I am going to hide you on her. So no matter where she goes for the next week, she gets banana pudding everywhere," said Ryne. "What did she do to you, Ryne?" asked John the mouse. "She tried to kill my cousin, Wesley. No one hurts my family. I had to promise not to hurt anyone, but I didn't promise not to make his or her lives terrible for a week. Payback is a bitch." Said Ryne with a smile. "Are you ready?" "Yes," said the mouse. He disappeared from Ryne's hand. Then she disappeared herself. ~~ Angel and Cordy stood behind the reception desk, Gunn and Fred in front of it. The four of them were looking through books and files when they heard Lorne talking to someone upstairs. They all turned around to see him coming down the stairs with a woman with raven black hair. She was laughing as they descended. "Hey I found her on the top floor. She said she was looking for you, Angel," said Lorne as he came down the stairs. The woman smiled at the group down below. 'Hail, hail the gang is all here.' Thought Ryne as she came down the stairs and across the lobby. 'I did promise you, Wesley that I wouldn't kick their asses over any of this, but you didn't make me promise to behave myself. They will soon know that messing with you was the worse mistake they have even made. I can't wait for them to find out what I did to Wolfram and Hart! If I could I'd make Holtz pay too!' "Hey," said Fred. "Did you find Wesley?" "Yes, I did. Thanks, Fred." Said Ryne. Reaching over the desk, Ryne put her hand out to Angel. "It's an honor to meet all of you. Wesley told me so much about you." She shook Angel's hand, and then Cordy's. "I am here because Wesley hired me to make it so nothing nasty can't slide in here whenever it wants to. It will keep your best buds Wolfram and Hart out of here too. I put protective wards outside and inside as well. Vampires will need an invitation from one of the five to get in. It's not a one-time thing either. They have to be invited every time. Since all of you were inside at the time I did it, the wards will know you. Oh, if Angel goes evil again, it won't let him in. He will be putting out a different vibe. I tried to think of everything. Which doesn't mean I did." Said Ryne. "When did he...pay you to put the wards around the hotel?" asked Angel. "He asked me to do it about a year ago. I got a little sidetracked since then. I had to go to Greece, and then to China, and then to London. When I finally got untangled from all that crap, I came straight LA to help Wesley. I would do anything for Wes." Ryne smiled at the other people of AI. 'It's time to drop the bomb,' thought the woman. She pulled out a card and put it on the counter and slid it toward Angel. "I should introduce myself, I guess. I am Katheryne Wyndam-Pryce. Wes is my cousin and I am a witch, in case you haven't figured it out that much." Angel Investigation's employees backed up toward the weapon cabinet. Ryne waved her hand and everyone disappeared and reappeared along the wall in the lobby, all unable to move. Walking down to the end of the line of bodies, Ryne stopped at Lorne. "You are the only one in this group that doesn't have a strike against him. Wes did bash you over the head. You are free from all my anger except that you should have cared a little more for Wes then you did. He did a lot for you and you gave him no second thought at all." Ryne moved over to where Gunn and Fred were stuck to the wall. "You two only have one strike each against you. That is because you gave the most thought toward Wes. Too bad it wasn't more then two seconds worth. His friendship should have been worth more than that, but of course you had to worry about the guy with the fangs. He, as well as a Wookie, can pull your arms off you. Not a pretty sight, I know." Ryne moved away from them and on to Angel and Cordy. "You two have known Wesley the longest and you each have three strikes against you. I can't figure out if you are both just plain out-and-out ass holes, or just so caught up in your own stupid lives to think that Wes didn't needed you more then you thought possible. No, I guess didn't think of that at all. Angel's son is missing and Cordy has to stand with the vampire. Well guess what? You haven't found Connor yet. Wes has had his throat cut. He had his old friend, Angel try to kill him with a pillow. His other old friend, Cordy, doesn't even give enough of a damn about him to even check on him. Gee, it must be great to be so full of yourselves." Said Ryne as she walked away from the group. "I can't believe that this is the group I heard so much about. Well I wouldn't give a nickel for this group." Ryne walked to the door. "You will come unglued from the wall as soon as I go out the door. I am not as heartless as I wish I could be. You mess with my family, you have to face the trouble coming back to bite you in the butt. Not that it's important, Wes is leaving town with me. If I am lucky, he won't come back to this hellhole. If you need him, which I know you won't, but we will be where the hills are the greenest green." Ryne pushed on the door and went out. Everyone went back to where they were before Ryne hit them with the magic. Fred went up to the door and looked out. "Wesley is out there with her." Angel picked up the business card. Katheryne Wyndam-Pryce was written on it. No address or phone number, but below was written: Si vous avez l'ennui m'atteindre, alors vous le faites faux. Regardez vers la montagne et croyez. Ou si cela ne fonctionne toujours pas, appelez le madhatter. [If you are having trouble reaching me, then you are doing it wrong. Look toward the Mountain and believe. Or ifit still doesn't work, call the madhatter.] The Vampire just stood there holding the card. "Are you ready Wes?" asked Ryne as she walked over to her cousin, who stood on the sideway-in front of hotel. "Yes, I am. I can't wait to see Phineas. I miss him," said Wesley. "Well, my son misses you, too, Wesley. He has been bugging me about when you were going to come and visit again. Now I am going to hug you again, and we will be home!" said Ryne. ~~~ "What?" said Cordy. She ran over to Fred. The two women stood there watching Ryne give Wesley a hug, then watched as the two and disappeared. "They are gone," said Fred. "I wonder where they went?" "They went to Seattle," said Lorne. "How do you know that?" asked Gunn. "Where the hills are the greenest green is a line from a song about Seattle, Washington." Said Lorne. " 'Seattle' by Jack Keller, Hugo Montenegro, and Ernie Sheldon." The group stared at the green demon. "Didn't any of you ever watch the old TV show "Here Comes the Brides?" Looking at the group, he shook his head. Except for Angel, everyone else was too young to see the show. "Never mind." Angel looked at the others and said, "I guess I was just too angry over loosing Connor to think of Wes or why he did anything that he did." The Vampire walked away from the others. "We still don't know his side of the story," said Fred quietly. Angel looked over at the brain trust. She was right. He never did give Wesley a chance to explain anything to him. "I never did go over to the hospital and see him," said Cordy. "I never gave him any thought at all. I was worried about Angel and Connor." The seer walked away from the group and sat down on the lobby sofa. "Angel, we really need to talk to him." "I know Cordy," said the vampire. "I should have talked to him before this. So let's see if we can find him and talk to one another like civilized people." "So look on the card and call the number on it," said Cordy. "There isn't a number to call on the card. It tells you that if you are having problems reaching her, then you are doing it wrong. Look at the mountain and try again. If that doesn't work call the madhatter. So there may not be a phone number to call, but I still want to try that way. After that we will get imagative about it." "Angel, I will get online and see if I can find her address and phone number in Seattle," said Fred. The young woman moved into the office and went straight to the computer. "Thanks Fred. Lorne, could you get ahold of someone in case this doesn't work?" asked Angel. "I might know someone who knows a higher kind of AT&T," said the green skinned demon. "I will give them a try." He moved across the lobby and out the doors. Angel watched as Fred work on the computer. Cordy got up and moved closer to the vampire, "Angel everything is going to be OK. We will get this right again." Angel turning toward the seer, "I know Cordy." He smiled at the young woman. He had seen her change from this self-centered person to someone that cared about everyone around her. Those back in Sunnydale would be very surprised by the way Cordy had grown up. "Angel," said Fred. "I found a K. Price Windham in Seattle. The thing is the last name isn't spelled like the way Wesley spells it. I also found an email to Wesley from someone called Ryne. I think it might be from Katheryne. Do you want me to write to it and see if I can get answer?" "Go ahead Fred and see if you can raise them that way," said Angel. ~~ Wesley stood in the meadow looking out over the cities Seattle and Tacoma. The view was wonderful. To think everyone in the Puget Sound area loves to stare up at Mt. Rainier from their homes. Ryne and her son, Phineas had a view of the cities and the Puget Sound from their home. Of course no one knew that was a house up here on the mountain. Well not this high up. They were in the National Park. The house couldn't be seen by anyone, excepted by those who Ryne wanted to see it. No one could reach them except by walking up the mountain or calling Ryne's connection in Seattle or calling her mentally. How that woman connected up to the Internet from up here without a phone line or cable TV line was beyond Wes, he didn't mind it at all. "Hey Wesley," yelled out a child's voice. "Yes, Phineas," answered Wesley. "Mom said your friends in LA are trying to get a hold of you by email. Do you want to talk to them?" said the boy from the doorway of the house. "I don't think so, Phineas," said Wesley. "They can be in the dark for awhile, I think." The man turned and went back into the house. THE END
