"Sin is communal. It is never private." Local priest, who shall remain anoymous, since I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want his name attached to this document (despite his propensity for quoting Monty Python on the pulpit, and other eccentricities!), 4/1/00.
Comment: If you only take one lesson away with you from here, that would be that what happens in your mind has repercussions beyond your skull. You might think, for example, that masturbating is a private matter, with no repercussions beyond that moment. I suppose it can be under some circumstances, but the thoughts you indulge in at that time can also, at a minimum, change your thoughts and assumptions and behaviors at other times. If you indulge in fantasies of behaviors which you know are harmful to others, or would be unacceptable to the others, you set up a pattern in your mind for acting on those fantasies. This has been shown through some fascinating research on golfers, who were asked to fantasize in detail about making the perfect swing. The time spent in fantasizing this was found to have greater impact on their actual golfing performance than real practice. Obviously, from the example chosen, I am not saying, "Don't fantasize," but rather to be careful what you fantasize about and how much energy you put into it.
"And you know that she will trust you / For you've touched her perfect body with your mind." Leonard Cohen, "Suzanne", 1967.
Comment: Or, conversely, you may know she won't trust you. Dreamwalking can communicate real information and intent.
"I'm sorry for being such a nebula-head, Astro!" George Jetson (Cartoon series).
Comment: I just like this one! It seemed appropriate since so many psychic types have a certain waking spaciness to them, sometimes simply eccentricity, but other times genuinely not quite altogether in the waking world.
"I can hear your thoughts / I can see your dreams." Lonestar, in the song "Amazed" from their album "Lonely Grill," 1999.
Comment:
Classic love song. Well, new, but a classic anyway. And the type of connection that comes with a deep attraction will sometimes bring out dreamwalking even in people who are not normally susceptible, which seems to be the situation described in the above ballad.
"But I know where you go when you dream / As strange as that seems 'cause I never even kissed ya." Steve Earle, in the song "All of My Life" from his album "Transcendental Blues," 2000.
Comment:
This song gives me goosebumps, and not just because the performance is impressive. The song basically describes a very clear obvious dream-stalking situation. A later verse continues with the lines "I'm here all alone in the dark But I know where you are 'Cause I can hear you breathin'." A spooky tune, and from the CD case it sure looks like it was written by Steve Earle himself.
"What if I should dream? / Meet my beloved in my sleep? / Long forgotten my love will come with the snow. / Toward evening snow falls thick and fast." Kim, Sowol. "Snowy Evening." Fugitive Dreams. Vancouver, Canada: Ronsdale Press, (c) 1998, p. 74. Trans. Jaihiun Kim & Ronald B. Hatch.
"As I grow older / a secret visitor calls on me / and wakes me into dream. Foxy-hued, slim-fingered, / in a mysterious yet familiar motion / she comes and nestles in my arms." Kim, Sowol. "Dream Visitor." Fugitive Dreams. Vancouver, Canada: Ronsdale Press, (c) 1998, p. 81. Trans. Jaihiun Kim & Ronald B. Hatch.
Comment:
The title of the second poem says it all.
"Sascha subsided, but he continued to glare at the graph recording of Rhyssa's early morning sleep pattern, where the wide black mark of the spoke showed that she had been roused from an REM dream sequence to full alertness by a mental intruder." McCaffrey, Anne. Pegasus in Flight. NY: Ballantine Books, (c)1990, p. 12.
Comment:
The Pegasus series (To Ride Pegasus; Pegasus in Flight; and Pegasus in Space) from Anne McCaffrey, as with many of her books, includes a number of examples of both psychic behaviors and psychic defenses. Highly recommended.
