Psych 101: Psychic Ethics for Beginners

Psych 101: A Beginner's Guide To Interpersonal Psychic Etiquette and Ethics

What is (and is not) meant here by "psychic"?

Let's not go nuts here, OK? They may be real people who are as exceptionally psychic as what is described in the National Enquirer, some SF novels, or other fiction. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking here about a fairly low level of sensitivity. Nothing that drives you mad, nothing that routinely interferes with your daily life.

What AM I talking about? Gee, you would press me on this, wouldn't you? Let's see. Many people are familiar with the sensation of deja vu. Let's say that the deja vu is real and true. It doesn't really help you -- you perhaps had a glimpse of graffiti on a wall somewhere, and you don't know where or when. Then you drive down a street someday and there is the wall, and you drive past it with a sense of recognition, and nothing has happened of any significance and nothing has changed.

Garden variety psychic ability tends to be of about that level of importance and usefulness. That is to say, it ISN'T useful or helpful, much. More often it is confusing and irritating. Scary, when it happens, if you are trying to pretend it isn't happening.

OK, so let's say it happens. Big deal, right? Unless it is happening a lot (and I am not dealing with that here), or is MUCH stronger than what I've described (and I'm not dealing with that either), or unless it is somehow interpersonal. Any kind of interaction between two people is potentially significant. Even a low-level garden-variety limited psychic link or dreamwalking. What I am discussing on these pages is ONLY interpersonal connections and ONLY a fairly low level of connection, nothing too exotic or powerful. Basically, something that probably happens to a lot of folks, but because it isn't very dramatic, it doesn't get a lot of press.
