Psych 101: A Beginner's Guide To Interpersonal Psychic Etiquette and Ethics
Exercises
Here are some exercises to help you identify your own personal patterns of psychic behavior. These are modeled on a medical technique used to isolate environmental allergens. You may choose to use these exercises singly or in combination, whatever gives you the information that you need. Personally, if I was only going to use one of these exercises, I would probably go for the Lunar Diary. For women, whichever exercise you use, please also track your menstrual cycle and incorporate that information into the pattern.
There are other sources for techniques and exercises to help you with strengthening, focusing, blocking, etcetera your psychic abilities. I do not go into those here, since the purpose of this site is primarily to help people understand what is happening and develop a lifestyle that allows them to live comfortably with themselves and others. The first step in this process is to identify how these abilities manifest and function in your own day to day existence.
Dream Diary
This is a pretty simple exercise. If dreamwalking is one of the issues involved in your personal situation, then keep a diary of your dreams. Keep something to write with by your sleeping area. You can go into as much detail as you want, but be sure to especially keep track of the following factors.
- Date and time of the dream.
- Any and ALL persons appearing in the dream.
- Who do they appear to be?
- Who do they say they are?
- What names or form of address do they respond to?
- Do they change during the dream, and if so at what point?
- During the dream, are names mentioned of other people who are not present in the dream? If so, who, and in what context?
- The theme of the dream (symbolic or behavioral).
You may need to track this for several months to gather enough information to detect a pattern. Once you have the dreams noted, you want to be able to associate this with related events and information from the waking world. Firstly, any related information from your own life. If possible, you will also want to note related events or information from the other dreamwalker(s). In particular, pay attention to the themes of the dreams, and note events or interactions in your life related to those themes. Another aspect of waking life to note is geographic distance, if either you or the other person travel. Most people have a very limited range, and as someone travels they may fade in and out of connection, depending on whether the geographic distance increases or decreases. If the connection consistently fades with increased distance from a given individual, this can confirm that you have correctly identified the dreamwalker.
The goal is to look for patterns and associations. Once you discover the pattern, you need to then decide how you want to proceed. Does the dreamwalking primarily occur when you have been in contact with the person in waking life? Or when you have not been in touch for a while? Are conversations or waking interactions reflected in the dreams? If so, you may consider changing how you relate to this person in your waking life. If you are a woman, and the dreams are associated with your menstrual cycle (or with the dreamwalker's cycle, if they are a woman), you then have a specific time period in which to focus your protections or preparations.
Lunar Diary
Some of the astrological observations mentioned in the Psychic Types discussion require that you have some idea what your own astrological birth chart looks like. For this exercise, that additional information is helpful but fortunately not required! What is required is either (1) a calendar which shows not only the phases of the Moon but also its daily movement through the zodiac; or (2) an ephemeris, if you know how to use one and read it. I will assume that you are working with the lunar calendar for the discussion on this exercise.
The logic to this exercise is that as the Moon travels around the twelve signs of the zodiac, as it does every thirty or so days, it will pass over every part of your astrological natal (or birth) chart. As it does so, it may trigger or heighten the effect of certain aspects in your natal chart, but fleetingly. FYI, the Moon spends approximately 2.5 days in each sign, and about two hours on a single degree. There isn't a lot of time to capture the sense of something happening; you really need to be watching and paying attention.
You can do this two ways, or incorporate both. The first is event-focused tracking; the second is moon-focused tracking.
Event Tracking:
- Date, time, and place of the event, sensation of psychic activity, or sense of psychic strength/weakness.
- The theme of the event; how did it feel, what did it seem to be about.
- Either at the time or later, you can transfer the information about where the Moon was located at the time.
- At a minimum, note which zodiacal sign the Moon was in.
- You may notice whether the Moon was at the beginning or end of its time in that sign.
- If the events seem to be very narrowly focused in time (brief time periods), you may want to keep track of specific degrees or spans of degrees.
Moon Tracking:
- Track what sign the Moon is in each day.
- Note the quality of your emotions each day, every couple hours if you can, paying special attention to feelings of:
- strength / weakness
- anger (fight) / acceptance (flight)
- discipline / self-indulgence
- response to environmental stress
- connectedness / isolation
- nurturing others / needing nurturance
- If there is a sense of psychic activity or a specific event, note this also. With dreamwalking, since this will occur usually when both you and the dreamwalker are asleep, look for broad patterns rather than specific.
Same as with the Dream Diary, you are looking for patterns. This is a good useful general exercise just to help develop self-understanding, and acceptance of difference in others. If you find times when you seem to be particularly vulnerable, then you know how to focus your protections.
