A Bed of Roses ~ Waterfalls

Opeakaa Falls

Located off the north branch of the Wailua River, and about 10 minutes from A Bed Of Roses this fall is not accessible by river or trail. A beautiful overlook, however, off Kuamo'o Road provides an excellent and safe viewing area. The falls flow year-round, unlike many waterfalls on the island that are dependent on heavy rains.

The best viewing time for these lacy falls is mid-morning when the sun is in the proper position for photographing this picture-perfect site.

Kipu Falls

This terrific little off-road waterfall is enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. The 20-rock wall surrounds most of the falls and a rope swing dangles invitingly. The pool below is deep and crystal clear. The falls are fed by the Hule'ia Stream on it's way to the Nawiliwili Bay.

There is a 5-minute hike off a dirt sugar cane road down to the waterfalls. On a hot summer afternoon, the area can become quite crowded, but the stream is wide here and the pool deep enough for everyone to enjoy.

Wailua Falls

This majestic, 80-foot waterfall is located close to the roadside lookout and was made famous when it was featured in the opening scene of the popular television show, Fantasy Island.

Depending on rain and the river's flow, the falls can dramatically change appearance. The best time to view this spectacular site is early morning as the sun shines on the falls. The brave and sure-footed can can take a slippery trail down to the bottom of the falls and take a dip in the cool, mountain water.

Secret Falls

Take a guided tour of a picturesque Hawaiian waterfall! Paddle on the Wailua River and hike through native flora and fauna. A day of exploration and fun for the whole family!

At night, it is said that one can still hear ancient drums thunder in concert with the nearby surf of the Wailua river. The trail leading to a secret waterfall boasts beautiful flowers, brooks and ferns abound. The early Polynesian culture is represented here, steeped in a colorful past, rich with rock-wall terracing, legends and lore. Bird watch for a night heron or coot and swim in a fern bordered pool at the falls. The setting for this jaunt is tranquil and tropical, the pace is unhurried.
