THE LITTLE POLISH BOY
[in response to the poem "To the Little Polish Boy Standing With His Arms Up" by Peter L. Fischl]
I stare at your photograph, thinking back on the days
When light was shattered, and the world a haze.
I see your eyes, helpless in the dark,
Victim of a crime that was never sparked.
I wish I could be there
To protect you from the guns;
No place to hide, no place to run.
I wish I could be there
To tell you Im sorry
In order to save me.
I wish I could be there
To comfort you from the storm,
To give you hope and keep you warm.
I wish I could be there
To make a change.
In a world who said nothing,
I wish I could be there
To right the wrongs
And rearrange.
