THE CROSS

When I think of the cross, Jesus, of the price you paid for me.
How you suffered and died on Calvary's tree.
The nails that were pierced through your hands and feet,
How you were mocked, and how you were beat.
How the soldiers whipped you 39 times,
The pain you went through for the sake of our lives.
I'm reminded of how great your love is for me,
How amazing and awesome your mercy and grace must be.

I think of your body, broken and torn apart,
Just to save my broken heart.
The crown of thorns pounded into your head,
The blood that flowed from it, dark and red.
The cross you carried on that long, weary road,
How your broken body could hardly handle the load.

Jesus, how You suffered such great pain,
Just so I could live again!
I know I'm not worthy, yet you paid the price for me,
How deep, how wide, how great, your everlasting love must be!
Jesus, I love you, because of what you did for me,
Because of all that you went through so I could be set free.

You took the punishment for my sins,
Just to save my dying spirit within.
You forgave the world for putting you on the cross,
You came to save the hurting and the lost.

I think of how the Father couldn't bear to look at you,
Because the sins of the world had been placed on you.
The wrongs of the world placed on your shoulders,
Weighing you down like heavy boulders.
Your gasping and struggling for a breath,
The nails digging in deeper, drawing you closer to death.
The sign pounded into the cross, above your head,
"King of the Jews", it mockingly read.

Jesus, my King, I'll never know,
How You could possibly love me so.
How You could give up your life, just for me,
So I'd have a future, a hope, a destiny.
How you could possibly care so much
And show me your gentle and loving touch.

There were two sinners crucified with you,
One asked for forgiveness, and you told him, he's see Paradise too.
Then, finally, with a loud cry of pain,
You shatteringly said, "It is finished".
I know that it will never happen again.

I now know how much you went through,
Just so I could be with you.
Thank you, Jesus, for saving my soul,
For rescuing me, and making me whole.

Thank you for after three days rising again,
For being with me and being my friend.
For giving up everything you had to give,
Giving your life, so I might live.

Jesus, You've shown me that You are the one,
The one who saves, God's only Son.
The one who brings life anew,
I now know that I can forever be with you.
The one who brings healing, peace, and joy,
For every man and woman, girl and boy.

Jesus, I don't know how I could possibly thank you,
For being who you are and doing what You do.
For restoring my body, my soul, my mind,
For bringing hope to all mankind.
For loving me each and everyday,
For guiding me and showing me all of your ways.

Jesus, I just want to tell you that I love you, I adore You,
You are my king, and I lay my life before you.
On the cross, You gave us the greatest gift of all,
You gave eternal life to all who call.
To all who call on the name of the Lord,
Who reach for you and the truth of your word.

All I can say is that I love you,
I believe in You,
I'll live for You,
I trust You,
And thank you, thank you, thank you!
