FIFTH GENERATION

22. John THOMPSON ⁽⁴⁶⁾ was born in 1796 in VA. We have no written or documentary evidence connecting our family line to John Thompson. However, he is the oldest of the Thompsons in the 1850 Harlan Co. census and the ancestor of all the eary Thompsons in the Harlan (Bell) Co. area Based on the births of their children, the Thompsons came into the Harlan Co. area about 1835 and settled on Brownies Creek.
Additionial informztion on the John Thompson family appears in "history and Families of Bell County Kentucky. According to information given, he came from Buncombe County, NC, to Bell County about 1834. Arriving with him wre "two of his brothers and their families." However, there is no information about them in any record in Bell County or Harlan County. They may have lived in an adjacent county. His wife's maiden name is listed in the death records of Wikerson Thompson.
