SIXTH GENERATION


60. John MARTIN(68) was born in 1762. He died before 1840. John Martin entered the Revolutionary War as a substitute for his father, who was drafted at age 45 . John's service began in late 1778 or early 1779. He fought in several campaigns against the British and their Indian allies; in Savannah, " in Bullswamp near Orangeburg" an expedition against the Cherokee Indians, volunteered to go against the British at Savannah and in 1781, his unit went to the aid of General Green at the seige of 96.

John left District 96 in the 1780's and settled in Hawkins CO, TN where he lived for four years. He stated that he lived in Lee County VA about 42 yrs when he applied for a pension (pension #515935) in 1833.

In his will he mentions his youngest four sons, along with one daughter, Jane Allen. This indicated that he may have been married twice. and the older sons had recieved some inheritance earlier. His second wife was Mary who died between 1818-1840.

61. Mary "Polly" UNKNOWN (69). Children were:

child ii. James Monroe MARTIN(32) was born on Jul 6 1809.(57) He died on Feb 22 1897 in Pulaski CO.,KY.(57) He was buried Woodstock Cemetery.

child iv. Jane MARTIN(70) was born in 1816. She died in 1851.
child v. William Stewart MARTIN(32).
