| There were also many technological and transportation advances in the 1980’s. The first launch of the space shuttle Columbia took place in the 1980’s. Today however we have more space shuttle and more frequent flight than there were in the 80’s. The 1980’s also saw major advance in the field of the PC, Mac and personal computer or laptop. The computer has advanced from being the size of a dorm room to make it so it comfortably fits in your pocket. Another big technological advance in the 80’s was the introduction of the CD. In today’s world however the CD is rapidly becoming obsolete and the Mp3 player is becoming ever more popular. Perhaps the biggest craze at the time though would have to be Pac-Man. It was introduced to the US and sparked a huge frenzy over games. The gaming industry thrives today as new consoles come out like the Xbox 360 and other but have broken away from the cherries of Pac-Man to shooters and sports games. Transportation in the 1980’s is not that much different than today. Probably one of the biggest American made cars of the decade was the Chevrolet Corvette. However it appeared the foreign imports were getting the major lime light during the decade. Japan had taken over as the world main auto manufacture in the mid 80’s. Faster, more efficient, and cheaper to make the import was a huge success. Gradually, American cars began to match Japanese cars for quality, so that by 1990 they were pretty much equal. |
