Soon enough, WPG v. Countries was about to commence.
Much of the comment was that since the Court had decided to hear
it - so soon - they were certainly going to rule in favor. But other
media wonks were saying it was going to be a quick dismissal of the
idea and a dart to the heart of the WPG "holo-show fiasco".
BR had made it to the Hague several hours earlier, and it was
reported that he was scheduled to follow JFK Junior in the opening
arguments for the WPG. (Once more, yes, 1995 this was, when
we might have been seeing to John getting his instrument rating.)
Anyway, even Kit was a little surprised and humbled that his very
own attorney was there and about to do that. And Jess was
excited for Felecia.
The Courtroom was packed inside and out when the Judges
entered. Military leaders, some business giants, governments and
even some Mafioso had tried getting to the Justices in those last
hours and even final moments, but the Judges were staying clean
on this one (not to imply they don't on all, of course). And the big
governments were not worrying. It was only the World Court.
John's argument was simple. They had the signatures. The
WPG was the Government of the People of the World. And the
People were suing to stop the humanicide and waste of their
resources, suing for governments to do what the People wanted,
through the WPG. It was definitely most historical. And John was
shiningly at his best.
BR painted around the broad stokes with exquisite locution,
followed by Springer, Kuntsler and well, heck, who are our great
legal orators? Then the other side made their argument, saying no
one even knew who was in charge of the make-believe
government, except for the "flako" stars wanted by governments
for their illegal activity over the thing; and they argued the security
problems and such.
The Judges started in on the questions, and then the
dialectics ensued, so much in favor of the WPG that it became
truly self-evident which way the decision should go. They went
on and on, then finally the legal teams summarized and the
Justices adjourned for deliberation.
"Just like Wopner!" Jess quipped, all of them sprawled out
on the porch furniture as they listened in.
"Uh, yeah, Jess..." Kit snickered along with the others, by
then everyone up from sleep and on the porch to hear the history.
And - who was that? Alanis? - got on stage at Monument and did
"What If God Were One Of Us". "...Just a slob like one of us...."
"Hay..." Jess was still punchy from the lack of sleep, "you're
a slob too, Hotey...I bet she wrote that about you."
The others "ooooooo'd" her dig and Cody feigned real hurt.
"Awww, darlin', you know I meant you're like God to me,"
Jess kissed his head and they talked on awhile, then fell asleep in
each other's arms in the porch swing as they waited for the Judges'
return, though, of course, they didn't know if the Judges would
even return that week. And the news coverage was about who
was leaving the Courtroom and where they were going amidst the
interviews of the participants and the rest, Flece excited to
maxness when she heard BR on the radio giving his assessment.
Then the leaders at the demonstrations came on - our guys
were listening to the WPG Network broadcast over one of Bari's
local rock stations. Leaders addressed the throngs in several of
the main capitols, giving the news from the Hague and more
demonstrating instructions for later, plus speculation on how close
they could be to winning. The house band at Monument, with the
Thunderbirds, were doing Stevie Ray's "Walkin' The Tightrope".
And some government leaders and others were still phoning the
Court to talk with the Justices, but to no avail.
It was about an hour later when the Network made the
surprise announcement that the Judges were ready to come back
out shortly, though the reporters didn't know if there was a
decision made or just more questions that needed answering.
Jess woke up, then woke Kit and Flee as Mo, So and Gena
came back out to the porch from inside. Then Will drove up with
a young girl and guy and, as the two new ones walked closer, the
guys recognized them. It was Jasmine and Sage! They had shown
up in Sarajevo for the WPG, they explained as they all hugged
and kissed, then had hitched over to Bari with some pilots after
hearing that Jessy, Kit and Flece were there.
"They seemed all right, Kit...but, man, were they insistent
on findin' you guys," Will smiled.
"Yeah, Will...thanks, pard," Kit returned an equal smile.
Jess offered their newcomers what was left of the
"everything" breakfast, and they all had some more Margaritas
and, yup, Jimmy B. came on to do "Margaritaville" at Monument.
"Serendipity is serendipity, I have to say," Jess had to say.
Then a conglomeration joined in with the Coral Reefers on stage
and Jim led them in a new song about the Court case as everyone
in the world waited for the Judges.
After catching up on Jas's and Sage's lives since China, and
Will's work at the airport, Kit and Jess checked back in with Puter.
He had some news from Sundance: the Court had found in favor
of the WPG!
Jessy screamed a "HOTEY!" and hugged and kissed Kit for
several moments, then jumped off the seat of the swing,
screaming and cheering some more as she went around the porch
hugging and kissing everyone! The others wondered what then
had gotten into her while Kit, pretty excited himself, showed
Felecia Pute's screen and she screamed and cheered as she dove
into Jess. And there was more from Sunny as the girls settled
down a little and went back over to Kit and Pute: the WPG
would be ordered to take charge of UN troops - the World Court
being the judiciary of the United Nations. But there would most
probably be some time before that happened.
It all just didn't seem real to the guys as they heard the
WPG Monument Network announce that the Judges were coming
back into the Courtroom and taking their seats. But it all made
sense, of course, Kit later postulated for the girls when the others
were listening to the turned-up radio: the Justices had just been
checking in with the Execs before and after their decision to gauge
the WPG's competency. And to prepare them.
