They took a
break for supper and finished the plane up
by mid-eve, the women out there in the barn with them
at the
end, admiring the work. Kit pulled out a puro
rolled with his
finest California sensamilia, gave it to Wallace
to light and that
party commenced, the girls bringing out the Frog. Kit
paid
Wallo the other $2,ooo, plus a $1,ooo bonus and offered
bucks
again to the others, but still none of them wanted any.
"Well, Kit...whatever
you're up to, 'migo, I wish you
buena suerta," Wally told him. Kit, of course,
answered
obliquely and they had a great smoke, a bunch of grog
and
laughs, then went inside Ri and Jul's for some late food.
And
they felt that they had really come to trust Wallace
- and Kit
loves people he can - so Kit, Jul and Mari had a quick
meeting
in the kitchen and decided to ask Wall if he would want
to help
with the new cabin, fence and all. They would tell him
about
the mine later, they agreed.
Wallace thought
about it for one second after they came
back out to the living room and Jul asked him, and he
gratefully came aboard, saying he would be back up in
the
morning. He reminded Kit while he was leaving to not
fly Juliet
- then changed to "Papa" - for at least 24 hours, then
drove his
grey '75 Dodge on out the trail.
Jess felt
like doing some music, so she and Flee got their
guitars and they, Kit and Jul played while the kids listened
and
sang along as they did their schoolwork with Maria. Then
it was
bedtime.
Our three
returned to their cabin, showered and bedded
down after changing the sheets and cases. Aw man. What
the
Kit was going through only he can tell.
Well, Pute
had some good news. The agent had been
suspended, pending an investigation! The girls whooped
it up
as they gave Putey a congratulatory message. And Kit's
relief
showed in his face.
Sundance told
them that there was still no response
from any country. They messaged back "just as expected"
and
the girls commed with "R" for a little while, laying
there all
naked as Kit massaged their feet.
Then it was
off to dreamland. Kit's. Sex with undoubtedly
two of the most beautiful young women on our planet.
Must I
say more.
Jessy called
Ginny in the morning, apologizing for the time
since last call and telling her that Flee and she went
out to New
Mexico to work as volunteers for the Monument Valley
Concert
and didn't know exactly when they would be back for school.
It
didn't set well at all with Gin, wanting to know where
they were
staying and the rest, but accepting the answers, a complete
cover
job. Flece followed with a call home and the same story.
Kit called
his Mother after that, just to say hi and to see
she was doing all right, and promised to get down to
see her.
Then they called Josh to see how he was and to fill him
in on
stuff, except WPO or the Gold, which they wanted to tell
him
about, but not over the phone; and talked with him about
coming out soon. The girls called some close friends
to stay in
touch, but didn't tell them much more than what they
had told
their families, but were still considered quite the adventurers
and
volunteers. Then they wanted to make breakfast for everyone.
They took
all the food they could carry over to Mari's
kitchen, where she and Es were just getting started.
Kit went up
to the mine after learning that's where the guys were
and they
were just getting started on putting in more stulls.
"Hey, I finally
won't have to say I'm sorry I wasn't here to
help," he relished, as he grabbed onto the beam they
were
carrying to the end of the mine.
"I don't know
why you would even want to get out of bed,
'migo," Jul responded with a smile. "But, since
you did, I guess
it's all right if he helps us, huh, Hooli?" as they stood
the beam
up against a side wall of the Silver and went for another.
"You sure
you have the strength, Kit?" Juli smiled.
"Man! Our
hito's getting smart, no, Hool?" Kit came back.
"Si, 'migo,
but, I sware, compadre, he didn't hear that from
me," Jul chuckled.
"Dos
muchachas...mm-mm-mm," Juli snickered, evoking
another from Julian as they carried the second beam to
the end.
"Ooo...bro's..."
was all Kit could respond with, besides the
smile, as they tilted the beam against the Silver and
went back for
a third.
"O...by the
way, Kit, and I don't mean to interrupt this, uh,
bueno conversation," Jul said, "but...we
have over $7 million
boxed so far, if my numbers are right...." The three
of them
stopped in their tracks before picking up the beam and
just looked
in each others' beaming faces, nodding their heads as
they smiled,
full of heart and happiness.
"Wow!" Kit
finally answered, and after more comments of
the such and like they went back to beaming up the end
of the
mine, then robustly headed down Mount Essy Jessy for
grubs.
` Kit decided during
breakfast that they would park "Papa"
at Santa, rather than find another ranch and arrange
all that
transportation. It would have been different, of course,
if Jessy
could have flown alone; but not yet, although it would
have been
just like soloing her out, he said. But too much could
go wrong
doing that. So, it was Santa. When the weather was bad
enough
for cloud cover all the way, hopefully that night.
Kit was also
thinking that the agent might try to find things
out on his own, and or have some buddies able to help,
so the
guys talked over taking watch shifts at night until the
fence was
finished and wired, although the dogs - "Waldo", "Peppers",
"Nina" and "Joni of Arc" - were acclimating well and
barking at
appropriate threats and trespassing critters as they
spoke.
After breakfast
it was fence work until Wallace got there,
then they broke up into teams. At lunch, Sonia and Emilio
drove
in in their old green Chevy pickup, behind Mari and Juli,
who had
met them down in Mora. The newlyweds had two dogs of
their
own - a female Lab, "Salena", and male Collie, "Chico"
- barking
away back in the truckbed with the other dogs, but they
all got
along just fine, as dogs do, after those first minutes
of smelling
each other and seeing there was a girl for every boy,
and thanking
their masters. You know dogs.
They all had
a long lunch out on the veranda, then the men
got back to the fence and left the women to enjoy the
afternoon,
talking and looking out over the valley and mountains,
and then
getting Sonia moved in. They all finished the day up
in the mine,
though, the guys deciding in mid-afternoon to go ahead
and show it
to Wally along with their new arrivals. The new ones
were struck
with that reverent awe when they got to the dig. The
entire front
wall was Gold and the side walls, roof and floor were
all becoming
Silver. It was the mightiest sight any of them had ever
witnessed,
of course. And Wallace and the newlys pledged their secrecy
there
at the end of the mine.
Wallo headed
on home before dinner, promising to bring the
family up on Sunday. Dinner was filled with Sonia and
Emilio
telling everyone in Spanish - and a little Ingles
- about the wedding
and their quick trip up, Maria translating for our guys.
Then they
heard some more of Jessy's music, everyone accompanying
on
something or singing along, Sone and 'Milio fairly good
musicians
too.
Kit and Jess
stepped outside, at a point, to check the weather.
It was clouding up real nicely. Seemed the Spirit was
still on their
side and paying attention, even with the pressure off,
they noted.
Kit talked with Jul, back inside, about the two of them
getting Kit's
truck down to Santa's airport and that was the plan,
the two of
them getting going in a few more minutes, but not before
Kit told
Jess that he felt she and Flee would be safe there at
the hacienda
with Julio, Emilio and the other women.
"Wait just
one second, flash," Jess countered. "We haven't
been apart since Lunken. Just where do you get off making
plans
without me...and that don't include me?"
She was kidding. But
pretty darn seriously.
"I, uh...don't...uh,
get off on that," Kit tried, then explained,
"you think I want to be away from you?!...There's
not room for all
of us on the way back...and we couldn't leave Flee...in
case
something happens...." The others, other than Jess and
Flee, were
wondering a little what he was thinking that might happen,
but didn't
ask.
"Boy, the
honeymoon sure is over," Jess smiled and kissed
him adieu as the others chuckled.
"We'll
just be a couple hours," he assured her.
"O really,"
she continued to tweak. "A lot can happen in just
a couple of hours, can't it, Cody. Maybe I'll be here...and
maybe I
won't." The others were chuckling some more.
"Eeee...habla
'bout soon married," Sonia joked in her strained
"Anglo", followed by comical comments from the others
out on the
porch as Kit and Jul walked to their Dodges and started
them up.
But then Kit turned off his motor, followed by Julian,
wondering
what was up. It just didn't feel right to the Kitster.
Not without her.
He smiled
and yelled over to the girls, "will you come?!"
"Oooo...NOW
you think about it," Jess taunted him as the
others laughed and kidded on. She and Flee started down
the steps
and Kit restarted the truck and pulled it over toward
them and
opened the passenger door. Then Jul called for Maria,
to more
laughs, and Ria volunteered Es to go, who headed for
Jul's Dodge.
Kit told Julian that he could just rent another truck
for the return trip
and Jul wouldn't even have to go.
"Some plan
you made, cowpoker," Jess said loud enough for
everyone to hear and laugh.
Jul returned,
"that's all right, Kit. We can all fit in here on the
way back."
"All right,
we'll do that then..." Kit answered, then got out and
ran into their cabin, yelling on the way, "wait a minute..."
and got
Jessy's cell phone, leaving Pute hooked up on his cell,
got the pager,
ran back out, yelled "OK" and they pulled out to the
joking applause
from the rest on the porch. And rode on down to Santa.
"Why didn't
we just fly Papa out and stay in a hotel and buy a
big wagon in the morning?" Jess razzed him, among other
stuff a lot
of the way to the gate. She eased up, though, after they
were back in
the truck after the gate, but sassed him that she noticed
he just
seemed to "fark" up on the little things. Then she whispered
something to Flee, who snickered, then, since it was
dark, leaned
over across Jess and opened up Kit's jeans, to his total
amazement,
and proceeded to play his organ as they drove down the
forest road
behind Jul and Es, and Jess had one hand on him or Flee's
hoots and
her other in Felecia's open jeans. Well, the ladies say
we should have
heard Kit's head bang against the back window when he
came but,
well, I guess we can imagine. Mm-mm-mm. Bad children.
