Turkey Vulture Cathartes aura

Easily identified from long distances, turkey vultures glide, rarely flapping, and holding their wings in a slight dihedral, or V shape. Turkey vultures nest on the ground in a hollow tree trunk, cave, or other such shelter. They are mainly scavengers, but will eat plants if carrion is scarce. Turkey vultures have an excellent sense of smell that helps them to find their next gourmet meal of week-old deer, yummy! Their heads, like all carrion eaters, have no feathers. After having your head in a carcass all day, those feathers would be messy and probably broken, so they have featherless heads.Click to hear them
