Saw-Whet Owl Aegolius acadius

/user/charlie.jpg

The saw-whet owl is one of the smaller owls in the U.S. and are found throughout the states. These tiny owls stand 7-8 inches tall. The name supposedly came about because the call sounds similar to a saw being sharpened, or "whetted." Their call is an incessant "toot toot toot toot" which may last for hours on end.
