Red-tailed hawks are common throughout the US.� They can often be seen sitting along highways.� Red-tailed hawks are so named for the rusty orange-red tail they aquire as adults.� Juveniles have a brown tail with darker brown horizontal bands.� They get the adult feathers toward the end of their second year.� Another distinctive marking is the dark bellyband that is clearly seen in flight.� Click to hear them. |
