Peregrine Falcons were greatly affected by DDT and were almost wiped out in the United States. They were placed on the endangered species list and bred in captivity. They are now doing well in the wild again. Peregrines are the fastest creature on earth. When chasing prey, they can reach speeds of 60 miles per hour, and can reach speeds of 270 mph when in a stoop(dive). Peregrines usually will eat song birds, pigeons, sea birds, shore birds, and waterfowl. They hunt by first circling above their intended prey. They will then go into a stoop and kill its prey on impact. They live on every continent except Antarctica. Peregrines like to nest in cities, on the ledges of buildings or under bridges. In the wild, the will find relatively flat spots on a cliff to nest. Click to hear them. |

If anyone has visited either of my other two sites, you're probably sick of this picture by now, but I like it. |
