Kestrels, like many other raptors, exist worldwide. They eat small rodents and birds, and catch their prey on the ground rather than on the wing, like most other falcons. Male kestrels have a lead gray head and wings, while females have a reddish head and wings. They are small falcons, 9-12 inches in length, and a wingspan of 21-23 inches. Kestrels will live in cities, farmlands, parks, and open country. Cavety nesters, they will make homes out of old woodpecker holes or manmade nestboxes. Click to hear them. |
