Great horned owls, also called "Cat Owls" are one of our most common owls. Their range extends accross the entire US, most of Canada and Alaska, and south throughout Mexico. Some ID characteristics are the ear-like tufts of feathers, which give them their name, and a white throat patch. Their call is the familiar hoo, hoo-oo, hoo, hoo. They stand about18-25 inches tall and are one of our largest owls. Click HERE to hear what they sound like. |
