In May several members of the Woodland Committee investigated the trial wild flower area and, encouragingly, identified fourteen different species. More wild flower seed will be scattered this autumn, The WI seat is 'weathering down' beautifully and is frequently used, being a lot warmer to sit on than the stone bench!! The rides have been cut twice this year and the final cut will be in October. Some of the encroaching blackthorn will be cut back, the Scots pines weeded by hand around the base and dead trees replaced. Most of the ash, lime, maple and oak trees have grown well above the tubes this year - the wood is gradually taking shape! Recently, a new information board has been installed at the Woodland entrance. It includes a few historical facts and a plan of the site. The pond did not retain water throughout the dry spell but it may well become a seasonal pond which acts as a 'host' to several different species of larvae. It is very gratifying to hear people say how much they have enjoyed walking the rides, sitting on the seats and generally admiring the view AIB
