On the 1st November, the week of the 'Great Storm of 2000', South Somerset District Council launched a Volunteer Ranger Scheme for Ninesprings. On the day, the Volunteer Rangers from the Yeovil area worked alongside the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers and Ninesprings Ranger, Becky Stevens. They were clearing old brush and scrub from the slopes of Southwoods and had more work to do than originally planned as the storm earlier in the week had caused several branches in the area to come down.
