WEST COKER FUN DAY REPORT

56 young people attended  the Easter Fun Day held on Wednesday 18th April at West Coker Pavilion.
Circus skills and craft sessions in the morning were followed by hairdressing, rounders and parachute games in the afternoon.  The Scouts kindly opened up their hall for the hairdressing session where girls and boys tried out new styles and temporary colour spray.
The day ended with a circus show, juggling, ribbon twirling, unicycling and spinning plates skills were displayed and  the finale saw several diabolas spinning high into the air only to reappear on strings manipulated by the clever performers.
The day, organised by Community Leisure Officer Hannah Aitken, was supported by enthusiastic village helpers with equipment hired at little cost from Yeovil Community Resource Centre.  A paid supervisor and playleader helped the smooth and safe running of the scheme.

It is hoped that holiday activities in West Coker will continue this summer with a play scheme management committee eventually being set up.   Two days are planned for the summer holidays - 7th and 14th August with a morning session (10 - 12 noon) for 5 - 9 year olds and the afternoon session (1 - 3pm) for 10 - 16 year olds.  Sessions in the pipeline include, for the older group, kickboxing and a drama 'Solve The Mystery' workshop, while for the younger ones there will be creative story-telling, countryside games and hopefully the Community Bus with its 'Myths and Legends' craft session.
Volunteers are needed to help with one or more 2 hour sessions, helping registering children at the door, preparing refreshments or supporting the activity leader.  If you would like to help or lead an activity session please contact:
