Dear Editor,
At the last meeting of the Parish Council meeting, it was reported in the Ropewalker, "...there was little to be gained from pushing for a by-pass...." Does this report of the Parish Council decision in closed session reflect the feelings of the villagers who live on or in West Coker? - For my part, that is an emphatic NO. The Transport Report circulated by the Parish Council in a previous edition of the Ropewalker was very clear, there are several key issues where the road does not meet the requirements. The solutions for these are clear enough but cannot be carried out due to the physical restrictions of the road and buildings. The alternative is clear in that other methods must be explored. It therefore made no sense to remove the by-pass from the structural plan as an alternative or fighting for that case to have it reinstated. Councillor Bakewell said the decision to remove the by-pass from the structural plan had already been made long before the packed Parish Council Meeting in May, an utter disgrace. Was there any discussion with the villagers about this decision - NO. At best the Parish Council Meetings are attended by a handful of people, yet in light of the road issue more people turn out in one meeting than for a whole year and still the Parish Council feels it is not worth pursuing. We are not talking about building a by-pass now, merely the fact that it should not removed from the structural plan, with no strings attached. Those at the May Parish Council meeting may

take heed of the subtle mention by Councillor Bakewell that a road might be considered if linked with a light industrial estate. The road has been allowed to slip quietly off the structural plan, it will undoubtedly only be resurrected in the future if linked with a light industrial estate. Do not let this happen, if you care about the quality of life in the village, make your feelings known, and I will publish them for all to see.

Dear Editor,
We shall be celebrating the marriage of Jamie and Mel at The Hall on the evening of 1st September and we hope the party will not cause too much of a disturbance.

Ed: I'm sure we all send our good wishes and hope the happy couple have a great day.
??? To the person concerned: O where, o where is the vacuum cleaner? Each day I wait and wonder will it be today or not. Or may be tomorrow or will it never come? E.G.

Dear Editor,
THANK YOU KIRA
On Friday 13th July I was lost for words - anyone who knows me would appreciate this amazing phenomenon! As I traipsed through Somerset and over to Dorset on some imagined concern my daughter, Kira, was steadily sorting the Pavilion, food and music for a surprise 50th birthday party. Thank you Kira for a fabulous night.
