Meant to add that we're (my mom's cousin Joanne and I)having trouble finding parents of Pharoh Sawyer of Gum Swamp area of N.C. Also, still looking for kin of my mom's missing uncle from Roper, NC - Granville Woodrow Sawyer - lived awhile in Wash., DC, w
wife (Mildred??) and child (?) and then vanished after family argument. Suspect he ended up in Texas, but unsure. All of his siblings have passed away now, but I'd like to solve this family mystery. My mother recalls a little about Woody, but not much.
She was very little when he'd visit. My great-grandparents were Samuel Sawyer and Mary Ella Wilson & gggrandparents were George Sawyer and Mary Whitehurst. My grandfather was Granville's (often called Woody) brother, George Martin Sawyer of NC and then R
chmond, VA. Woody's other siblings were Helen, Sterling (who searched for Woody for many years), Minnie Leigh, etc. (I'm trying to do this by memory, so I'm forgetting one or two, I think.) I think I may have found his SS death record - off by a few mon
hs - and I've written to the RR board to ask them to search their records. Hard to do much, though, with an active family life w/a husband and two young kids. :-) And this genealogy stuff still boggles my mind!!
