| John Montgomery/ One Step Away/ Circus Drum Records John Montgomery is a very talented singer/ songwriter who grew up in New York. His debuut album "One Step Away", on his own leabel, is a very nice mixing of alternative-folk and pop music . It's a 10-song beautifully written, heartfelt cd with 9 self-pented songs and one from the big guy Bob Dylan. John has also used a bunch of fine musicians who play's acoustic guitar, dobro, lapsteel, cello, accordian and even xaphoon. Listening to his songs, late in the evening with a glas of red whine, it gives you a wonderful feeling. Hopefully someone in Europe will book this talented singer/songwriter for some concerts. We in the meantime can hardly waith to hear more from this guy. "One Step Away" is an high recommended CD for the real music fans. (www.johnmontgomery.com) |
| Jack Ingram/ Electric/ Sony-Lucky Dog Records Jack Ingram is one of the new breed country-rock music outlaws in Nashville. "Electric" is his second release for Sony's Lucky Dog Records. Ingram delves into the struggles and conflicts that come with releationships ("What makes you say", "Won't go with her" and "You never leave"), the illusions people maintain ("Fool and One lie away"), solidarity and camaraderie ("We're all in this together"), love's grandeur ("One Thing") and faith ("Pete, Jesus & Me"). "Electric" speaks from the heart to the ways in which we think, feel and live our lives. His new album features guest vocals like Patty Griffin (who has a brilliant new album "1000 Kisses"). and Lee Ann Womack. Jack chose Frank Liddell to produce "Electric" (credits, Chris Knight, Lee Ann Wommack, Jim Lauderdale and Bruce Robison) It's very difficult to make always better albums but for Jack it's always a creative challenge. | Mary McBride - Everything seemed alright(Bogan Records) Singer Songwriter Mary McBride brings us a sort of countrified roots-rock. Her style reminds me of Lucinda Williams, Bonnie Rait and Lou Ann Barton. Amongst the members of the band are D. Clinton Thompson and Rongo Gremp of the Morrells and Willie P. Bennett of the Fred Eaglesmith's band. Fred is also present with one song "Rev it up" and as co-author of the titletrack. The cd is produced by Lou Whitney. Highlights of the cd are "If you lived in my town", "Everything seemed alright","Boys" "Blind boy" and "Crazy again". Highly recommended to the country-roots-rock lovers. www.marymcbride.com |
