The Digby Tibert Family
The Digby Tibert family was discovered when I began my search on my family tree at the Public Archives in Halifax many years ago. All the information I found on them, I kept, always wondering if some how my family and the Digby and area family were some how connected. Well, after many years have pasted, I found that our families, at least in Northa America, have no connection. It surprises me that the Digby Tiberts did not suffer the same spelling changes through the centuries as my family. Their name was always spelled TIBERT, where even today, my cousins are Typert and Tipert. Last November, I connected with several descendants of Nicholas Tibert who originally settled in Central Grove, Nova Scotia. One of them plans to post a web site, but until they do, I decided to add this to my web site to help other Digby Tibert descendants find their true ancestors. So, if you have not found a connect to the Lunenburg Tiberts, you might just find one here. So, this page will remain open until another is created. When that site comes on-line, I will provide a link from my home page to that address. Happy searching!
The story begins with Nicholas Tibert. From what I gather, he may have been born in North America. He left New York City, possibly the Hudson Bay area to settle in Cental Grove, Digby County, Nova Scotia. Central Grove is located in the center of what is called Long Island just a short ferry ride away from the Digby Neck on the Bay of Fundy. Nicholas married Ann Burns who was born in Digby, NS on April 30, 1798. Together, they had four children; Debby, Sally, George and Jacob. Here, I have a generation gap. The names listed below are those I have on record. To find further information on everyone listed below, go to the Digby Family Information Page. In many cases, I have listed a person, who they married and their children. Because I lack the information of parents, it is not easily to piece the family lines together. So, I will present the information and you can draw your own conclusions.
