Post Summer 2003
I've finally sat down to write something for the site. I apologise for it taking so long, but thanks to my laziness, and commitment to playing Championship Manager every spare minute, writing something for this site is never to the fore of my mind. It has been months since I updated it, so I'll try give the shortest summer review in history.
Basically the last time I wrote here, I was mentioning that I was on the look out for a job. Well I got one, out in Dell. From day one, Paul and myself were in agreement that it was the worst, most amateur organisation on the face of the planet. I absolutely hated every minute of it out there. Our daily routine was to get up round 7, have breakfast, leave at half 7 to start work at 8, pass away the day till 4 as quickly as possible, then go home. I have to admit that some days were ok, I met some sound people there. It was the managers that were the problem. The head lad, Billy, was a total muppett. He got promoted to his job from pot washer or something. Saying he was stupid would be an insult to all the stupid people of the world. Luckily, I had very few dealings with him. The woman that was in charge of my area, was every bit as thick. She had it in for me from day 1, but she got no change from me. Anytime she had something to say, I had something to say back. It was an uneasy relationship, but if she asked me nicely I'd of given her one. Even the day I left, none of the so-called top brass said goodbye, thanks, or anything like that. My fellow workers all did, and that was cool. I worked there for 8 weeks, and I don't know I managed to stay that long, but I counted down the hours until that day Ileft. It was the best day of the summer, by far.
Once out of Dell, there was 3 weeks to pass until college started. Most of that time was spent doing nothing, maybe play a game of something on the PlayStation, watch a DVD, have a beer, or go into Limerick village. I also moved my house during this time. It was sad to leave Sheelin Rd again, but the new gaff has the potential to be every bit as nice. At this point I must give credit to Edel for helping us find a place. She spent ages on the phone trying to sort us out. Thanks Edel. We had looked at a few places before going to where we are now. One place behind Ivans was ok, but she wanted too much money up front, nearly €1000 in fact. Another place was on Walnut Drive. That particular spot was perfect. It was some spot, absolutely savage it was. The landlord asked for €80 a week, so we ran away. No one could afford that, except for those among us who saved every penny they got during the summer from work, and then got their parents to pay for them during their college life. Maybe €80 would be OK for those people, but for my pals and me it was ridiculous. Our new gaff is grand, 4 single rooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, sitting room, utility room, garage, and loads of grass around for footy. I'm living with Paul, Colm and JP. There's never a dull moment.
I saved a fair chunk of the money I got from working during the summer. I tried to spend as little as possible, that way I'd have a good bit for my last year of college when the grant is included. As usual, things never work out as they are planned. I am currently paying for a van, and the grant office appears to have decided not to renew my grant. So I am staring poverty in the face, and I don't like it. So far however, I've been out every week since college started. It doesn't feel like it used to though. Maybe it's because we're all that little bit older and wiser. I did manage to get into the Trinity Rooms though. That's what they call Doc's these days. And it basically is Doc's. Nothing too much has changed. Apparently it's a big celebrity venue now. My arse. So anyone that tells you that it's the best place ever, don't believe them. All it is, is Doc's with curtains.
This year I'm back in good old LIT for the 4th year in succession. The longer I spend in it, the more I realise that it is a shocking, poorly run effort of a third level institution. I'm doing a B. Sc in Information Systems this year. That is brilliant. If I finish the year, and I probably will, I'll have a degree. That shows that I'm qualified. I'll know a little about everything, and a lot about nothing. Why I didn't do Computer Science in UL I'll never know. I'll have spent 4 years in college and I'll have fuck all at the end of it. Institute of Technology, sure it is. Even this years subject's are crap. Instead of following up with what we learned in previous years, they start brand new topics. How stupid are they? One subject is basically rating websites out of 5 or 10. Brilliant stuff. On top of that tripe, I've a dissertation to do. Don't know really what I'll do it on, but I seem to be heading towards Biometrics. Biometrics deals with fingerprints, facial recognition, iris scanning and that kind of rubbish. That should keep me busy for some part of the year at least.
I haven't much else to say now, so I'll stop writing. It's time I started back
playing CM4. I'll try put something up soon. Have a good one.
