I wish the best to you in your up incoming season. The one thing that hasn�t chanced is Coach Duane Telliano commitment to the young people. When I attended Roosevelt High Sch ol Coach Telliano would pick me up at 4:30 am. We would start in the weight room for an hour then move on to the track for thirty minutes, and then a good seven mile run to warm down. The afternoon session would consist of interval work on the track to ga n speed. This was required because in order for us to drop our times we needed to compete in as track meets as possible. At the start of our first year it was only Coach Telliano, and I but by year end over half the distance runners had started the morning session We would average 70 to 90 miles a week and this lasted well beyond the time I left Roosevelt High. We wanted to set the standard to create a track / cross-country environment that would bring young people to Roosevelt for years to come. In the process we would keep our eyes out for up and coming stars around the area. Upon reviewing �Rough Riders Best erformers� in distance running the times posted reflect this vision. The experience that was taught to me through the sport proved to be a valuable asset to me in life. I strongly encourage the young people not to let this opportunity past by. I am a founder of Engineering Company, owner of two retail stores and have trav led the globe more then once. In closing I want to thank Coach Mata for picking up the torch, and please remind these young people that they can have anything in life so long that they keep focus and work hard. It kind of seemed to cool to, yeah not go to practice but I finally realized that it aint cool cause i missed out on what i could have been, probably a very good runner, and a better role model for those who who stayed to continue the tradition which i took for granted.
