| Now, here's a band that had a hell of a debut album to follow up to in terms of success. They have been hyped up so much that this had to be something special. I find Franz fascinating as apart from the singles I really don't think their debut could be considered a masterpiece. It's good yes. Revolutionary? Certainly not. That said Take Me Out is one of the best singles in the last 5 years. Anyway, onto this, their second helping. I think this blows the debut album right out of the water. Had they released this first I could have understood the fuss. What I like about it is it has the energy & rawness of a debut album. A lot of bands nowadays find it very difficult to do follow up albums. It's usually a huge 2 years off the back of the debut then into obscurity for them. It flits from the cheeky Do you Want To, to 60's esque Eleanor Put Your Boots On & Walk Away, to sounding like Barenaked Ladies on The Fallen. One of the most varied albms I've heard in ages. Full of top ten hits - I vote Walk Away for future single! Top tracks The Fallen, Do You Want To, Walk Away, You're The Reason I'm Leaving, Elenaor Put Your Boots On, I'm Your Villain 9 out of 10 |
