Toni Collette first drew huge American attention with the smash Bruce Willis thriller "The Sixth Sense", in which she played the mother of Cole, a young kid who "saw dead people" among dead dogs, and, you guessed it, living people. There were plenty of alluring shots of her, especially the split seconds towards the start of the film where she was in her bra, buttoning up her shirt. She was, in the spirit of the terrible "American Pie", a milf (Mother I’d like to f-ck.)

Being the hugely attractive woman that she is, one wouldn’t expect her to just ease up and gain some weight. However, in 1994, she starred in the sleeper Australian movie "Muriel’s Wedding", when she played a bumbling woman in search of the perfect man. In order to fit the part so to speak, she was required to gain 45 pounds, and, as she says herself, "I'm not sure there's a healthy way to gain 45 pounds in seven weeks. I just ate and ate and ate. I was bursting out of my clothes." She looked simply fantastic with the extra weight, despite the ugly character she attempted to play.

Most disappointing was the fact that she lost all the weight soon after to star in future roles. However, she doesn’t like the work involved in losing it, as she said in an interview a year after work on the film. "Working to get it off was terrible. Exercises are so boring... Your thighs chafe when you walk, which isn't so pleasant. But my bosom was twice as big - which was simply terrific." Let’s hope she gets lazy, if not for a movie role, but for her part as role model for every waspy actress out there. There’s much hope for the future with this British angel.
