Freeze thaw weathering is where rain water gets into cracks in a rock ,and when the water freezes it expands the crack ,this process is repeated until the rock cracks into 2 pieces and the whole process is repeated.

In case you can't tell this process involes heating and cooling, what happens is during the day the sun shines down on this rock(the black semi-circle)and as the rock heat up, it's little grains expand then when the night falls the temperature drops. As the heat drops the grains contract(the blue semi-circle) leaving some grains only just hanging on. As this process is repeated grains fall off.
