Born in Crawford County, near Nevada, she was the daughter of Jacob and Matilda Kester Shumaker. At Galion in 1895 she married George Gattner, who died in 1929. He made his home with his niece, Mrs George Funk at Leesville for the last 16 yrs. His wife, Mrs Mary Margaret Hahn Gearhart, to whom he was married Oct 3, 1885 [the last digit may be a 9?], died 26 yrs ago. Nieces and nephews, including Mrs John Keller of Galion, are the only close relatives surviving. �William J. Gelbaugh, of Crestline, dropped dead Saturday night in his grocery store in that city. His death was due to apoplexy. Mr. Gelbaugh was aged 52 years. He is survived by his widow, three children, his mother and one sister. Mr. Gelbaugh was quite well known in this city. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and Junior Order Lodges. Mrs. Thomas Maher, of Sharpless court, is a cousin of Mr. Gelbaugh. �Gledhill- at his residence near Middletown, Crawford County, Ohio, on the morning of the 7th of August, 1868, after an illness of but three days, Joseph Gledhill, Sr., aged 68 years, 10 months and 26 days. Father Gledhill was a native of England, where he lived until after marriage, and in 1823? Came with his family to America and lived first in Columbiana county, O., six months, then moved to Trumbull county, and after six years spent there he came in Nov., 1833, to Crawford County and purchased the farm on which he died. A very large concourse of relatives and neighbors testify their love and respect for the deceased by following his remains to their final resting place in the family burying ground near Middletown. "Mrs Mary M. Haines, child of Frank J. and Caroline Meyer, was born in Canton, Stark County, Aug 1, 1846. She was the last surviving member of a family of five children.... Sep 24, 1864 she was married to Monroe W. Haines, who died Feb 24, 1910. The greater part of their married life was spent in Marion, but about eight years ago, they removed to Washington, DC, where the family has since made their home. Mrs Haines was devoted to her family and her home. She was fond of music and all the fine accomplishments which count for so much in the making of perfect womanhood. She was a member of the Episcopal Church, and whenever her health permitted, she was a regular attendant. In an accident six years ago she sustained a fracture of the hip. Being naturally delicate, she never recovered from the effects of this injury. Although she had failed steadily since that time, her death came unexpectedly. She fell asleep on the morning on Jan 13, 1911. Her only daughter Miss Carolyn E., is left to mourn, as well as numerous friends in this city, Washington, and her girlhood home of Canton." "First Traffic Fatality in Bucyrus is Man, 83. Bucyrus-- William P. Hancock, 83, of nearby North Robinson, became the city's first 1949 traffic fatality when he succumbed at 6 pm Tuesday to injuries received in a truck-auot collision here early Sunday.
A companion in his car, William Frost, 75, of North Robinson, remains in City Hospital here where attaches describe his condition as 'poor.' The men were blinded by lights of an approaching car and their car crashed into a parked truck on East Mansfield street near the underpass, police report. Mr. Hancock suffered deep lacerations of the head and right hand while Frost suffered several fractured ribs and a hip injury. Both were taken to City hospital. Both the car and truck, owned by D. E. Hughes of Bucyrus, were damaged badly.
Mr. Hancock was a retired Pennsylvania railroad section foreman. He is survived by three sons, Omar of Toledo, Harry and Clarence, both of Bucyrus, a daughter Mrs Elsie Cox of Bucyrus and two sisters, Mrs Reuben Heitzman of Galion and Mrs Mary Schott of Bucyrus.
Services will be at 2pm Friday from the Wise funeral home here with Rev. M. D. Wenger, pastor of Woodlawn Evangelical United Brethren Church of which Mr. Hancock was a member, officiating. Surviving is a granddaughter, Mrs Bogan Ryan of Bucyrus, a great-granddaughter and a great-great-grandson of Indiana. Mrs W. R. Bogan of Bucyrus is her daughter-in-law. Born Feb 21, 1874, in North Robinson, she was the daughter of John and Sarah Chambers Bogan. She was first married to Chan Holland, who died in 1912. On Aug 31, 1916, she married Sydney H. Hodge, who died Feb 26, 1950. A brother, Amos, with whom she made her home, is the only survivor. Mrs Hodge was graduated from Bucyrus HS in 1892 and worked for several years in the postoffice here. After marriage to Mr Hodge, she moved to Chicago, where she and her husband operated a restaurant. They retired in Sept. 1946 and returned here to make their home. ... burial will be in Oakwood..." Mrs. Hoss was a member of Nazareth Lutheran church at Chatfield, Surviving are two sosn, Jesse and Jonas, both of Bucyrus; three daughters, Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Eva Schafer of Bloomville and Mrs Mertha Beal of Chatfield township; two brothers, William Klink of Chatfield township and Emanuel Klink of Crestline, and three sisters, Mrs. Eva Schwemley, Mrs. Emma Fauser and Mrs. Amanda Rugula, all of Chatfield township. Rites will be held at 2:30 pm Sunday in the Chatfield church with her pastor. Rev. Luther Knauff, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery in charge of the Munz funeral home. Born Feb 3, 1885 in Chatfield Tp., he was a son of Phillip F and Elizabeth Klink Hoss. He was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church and the church Brotherhood. Surviving are his widow, Mrs Anna Schnarrenberger Hoss; a daughter, Mrs Warren Brown of Bucyrus RR2; 2 g/c; a great g/c, a brother Jonas of Bucyrus, and three sisters, Mrs George Shafer of Bloomville, Mrs Bertha Beal of Chatfield and Mrs Naomi Brown of Bucyrus.... "Bucyrus-- Mrs Cora M. Hoss, 88 of Chatfield Tp. died at 2 pm Sat in Westfall Rest Home here after a six year illness. Her husband Fred A. died in 1962. She was a native of Crawford Co. Born July 19, 1884, she was a daughter of John G. and Catherine Schwemley Brown. She was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church at Chatfield. Before moving to her late home in 1960, she had resided in Wood Co. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs John (Florence) Ryman of RR 2, New Washington and 2 grandchildren. "The 8th traffic fatality of the year for Crawford Co. was recorded Thur. when an elderly Crestline man succumbed to injuries he suffered in a train-car crash Aug 12, the local highway patrol post reported today. Charles F. Huber, 87, of RR 1, Crestline, died in internal injuries and lacerations and abrasions of the body he suffered in a smashup at the New York Central railroad crossing on Crawford Co. Rd 77. He apparently did not see the train as he drove across the tracks at 4:15 pm and his car was struck broadside by the NYC freight train. .... Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery..."
