Chana Daal Fritters
Back
Its main ingrediant is Chana Daal (Bengal Split Gram Lentil). Its a snack item or can easily go as an Appetizer. Since Bengal gram split lentils are fatter, bigger and coarse, I would suggest its best to have them NOT as lentil soup. Here, the batter itself would be the Lentil paste. Here's a simple recipe: Chana Daal Fritters Ingredients: ************ 3 cups of Chana daal (Gram split or Bengal Gram Split) 2 onions - medium in size and finely chopped ginger (finely chopped) - 2 tbsp garlic (finely chopped) - 3 cloves 4 green chillies - medium in size 8-10 curry leaves (tear curry leaves for better taste) - OPTIONAL Salt to taste Oil to fry Start by soaking the daal/lentil for 3-4 hours in enough water. Drain the water and grind the daal. Let the paste be coarse, if needed, add some water while grinding. Add the chopped onions, torn curry leaves pieces, ginger, garlic, salt (according to taste) to the coarse paste and thoroughly mix together. make small portions (balls). Heat oil in a deep vessel - amount of oil required to deep fry, wait till the oil is very hot and then fry each of these balls until golden brown in color. Once done, take them out and pat them with tissue paper (to get rid of excess oil).
