KING BEES GIG REVIEW PAGE
The Met Theatre, Bury 9th April 2004

Ronnie 'Razorback' Gibson & The King Bees are rapidly building a reputation for great R&B and interesting original Blues material. The band were relishing playing in front of a packed local audience.
The band have introduced a fair amount of their own material into their set and the songs stand up really well, with thoughtful lyrics and good use of space. The band's allegiance with Chicago really comes through in their sound.
Chris Cullen on bass really holds the band together whilst Steve Wilde on drums can vary his technique, together they are a tight rhythm section. Kelvin Barlow on rhythm has the ability to vary his style to match the song. Ronnie Gibson is the main focus when it comes to lead, his unique style is somewhat reminiscent of Byther Smith as he interjects and underpins the melody and simply bursts into action in the high spots.
After a non stop one and a half hour set, Chris thanked the audience and said the band would finish with a song we all know. The truth is I didn't and it was a full two minutes before I realised it was High Heel Sneakers! But, here's the rub, they don't simply play blues covers, they make the songs their own and deliver them with style, that's what puts them ahead of the pack. Catch them live soon
