About me

click to enlarge OK guyz, here you're gonna see some pics! If you want to enlarge it, just click on the pic and there ya go. Don't be scared, it's just me, Ronnie Slogun! All the photos were made in 1998 (except for the updated onez).

Well, some info about me now. My name is Ronnie Slogun, and sometimes I put in it the word "Stradlin", which is my nickname - I'm a really big fan of Izzy Stradlin. I was born on March 10, 1981, in the country, that today is a part of the history - Soviet Union. My birthplace was a city called Baku, that now belongs to Azerbaijan as a capitol of the independent country.
From my youngest years, as my mom recalls, I fell in love with music - "spaghetti pop" - italian pops, that everybody used to listen in USSR back then, was my first musical influence, when I was 3, and of course it were also The Beatles - I've listened to them as long as remember myself. After that, I lived with my parents for year-and-a-half in Poland, in the city called Lublin, but I can't remember a lotta things from that period. When I was 4, we came back to Baku.
When I was 5, and that I already can remember, I was influenced with Europe chart-hitters, electro-pop sweet duet called "Modern Talking", and till I reached the age 7, other pop singers "Bad Boys Blue". But on my birthday in 1988 I got pretty cool present - my very own tape recorder! And since then I'm huge rock fan. My first rock bands to listen on that T.R. were the ones like Deep Purple, Scorpions, Queen, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Moody Blues and Def Leppard.
In 1989 I saw Guns N' Roses video (that was "Sweet Child O' Mine"), for the first time, and I thought: "Wow, these dudes are cool!" But I wasn't influenced with Guns very hard back then. 1989 was a year when lotta cool bands arrived to Moscow to play on rock festival "Rock (Against Drugs) In Moscow", and though I couldn't go to Moscow, I watched the show on TV - russian TV showed a little piece of the concert, and they drove me crazy then. Those artists are still one of my favourites: Motley Crue, Cinderella, Ozzy Osbourne, Skid Row, Bon Jovi, Scorpions... It was a breakthrough festival - after it many bands came to Russia to play the shows there.
I became influented with Guns N' Roses in 1992, when I saw their videos from "Use Your Illusion", such as "Don't Cry", and "November Rain". I got both parts of "Illusion" soon, and since then I'm a big fan of the Guns.
When I was 13, we moved to Israel - our kins lived there. Baku was a pretty good place to live in, when you're just a kid, but when I grew up, it started to suck. So I was glad when we arrived to Israel, but soon turned out, that this place can suck as well. Many problems, from?#060;a href="http://www.geocities.com/ronnie_stradlin/radio98.jpg">Rock'n'Roll Radio - click 2 enlargeunbelievable hot and sticky weather to universal military obligation, really piss off the normal people here. Besides, it's really not a good place for rock'n'roll - it's like a dead end for that kinda musicians. But despite of all these things in 1997 me and my friends , formed the band "Rock'n'Roll Radio". Our first line-up was: Kosta (the only one of us who previuosly gigged with other bands) played on drums, Dan Kadosh on guitar, and I took over the vocals, plus friend of ours, Alex Verdjan, agreed to play bass. We worked on our material, and rehearsed a lot, but soon Alex decided to quit. Kosta agreed to play bass then, and we started looking for a drummer... Oh, that took a really long time. We couldn't find a suitable player, till Dan's friend, Tom Cook, as he decided to nickname himself, agreed to join the "...Radio". With him we rehearsed during the first months of 1998, and in May we did our very first gig. Later we played on Victor Tsoy, Russian's late rock hero tribute show. At this period our live set contained about eight our songs as well as covers, such as Misfits "Attitude", that Guns N' Roses did on their "The Spaghetti Incident?", we did Ramones' "Pet Semetary" and U2's "With Or Without You" as well. In the end we changed things again, Kosta switched on the guitar and Dan Kadosh started bangin' the bass, and that's the line-up you can see on the photo above.
But from Israel you can't get anywhere with that kinda music, and slowly our inspiration just slipped away. The whole situation sucked, and by the end of the year we started splitting up. I had quit the band in November, and they tried to do something without me, but it?#060;a href="http://www.geocities.com/ronnie_stradlin/ronnie1.jpg">it's me in 1998 - click to enlargejust didn't work, and the band disintegrated.
The whole 1999 I spent on trying to find some musicians to form a new band, but I failed - nobody's here seems like playing rock'n'roll.
So I write songs and play them for myself. I play "B.C.Rich - Warlock" guitar right now, but of course I'm gonna buy some Gibson Les-Paul - this is my dream.
On summer 1999 I started rebuilding my site, that was already made by me on spring, but I didn't have time to put it on the Web, and lost it because of April `99 computer virus, that fucked up my PC. Right now, you're? checking out my site, and I hope you're gonna like it!
'War pigs' gonna take me to their goddamn' army pretty soon, to get my ass kicked really hard, and I can't escape it. 'Cause everyone who don't go to the army here, kinda breaks the law and goes to jail. But, I hope, they can't kill rock'n'roll in me; anyway, I'm gonna keep on doing it, playing rock'n'roll makes me damn happy!

                                                       - Ronnie Slogun, 1999

The lines above I wrote in 1999 and haven't updated since then. Well, I guess that now it's time to tell you some news about me. It's summer 2001, I still live in Israel and suffer - it's superhot weather this August here, and, except 4 that, I was forsed 2 join the military crap last year (didn't wanna go to jail). But it couldn't stop my rock & roll - me and Kosta, guitarist from my previous band, Rock N Roll Radio, managed to form a new band in 2000. It's called "Ice Cream" and we're playing pretty good rock 'n' roll - Kosta's sister, Janie Roll, destroys drumz, and her school-mate More Action abuses bass. Maybe I'll put here some MP3 files of Ice Cream songs, if I'll get enuff webspace on Geocities. And meanwhile check out some our photos we made this spring while recording our very first demo-disc called "Chicks Rock", that contains 8 songs.

Our manager and roadie Mike Sandman.                       That's what my ass looks like in jeans.

As you can see, I'm still doing fine, though I'm in the army (don't expect here for the photos of me in the uniform :) ). X-cept 4 the military and band thing, I also manage:?1) updating my?Guns n` Roses "NIGHTRAIN" site sometimes, 2) being with chicks, 3) writing songs, 4) buying discs and stuff and liking rock'n'roll. Guns n` Roses is still my favorite band and I guess it'll be forever! Now I currently listen to Motley Crue's "New tattoo", L.A.Guns "Man in the moon" (produced by Gilby Clarke), Depeche Mode's "singles 86-98". Also I'm going to get my hands on some rare New York Dolls and Hanoi Rocks stuff and currently admiring MTV's first VJ contest winner Jesse Camp (he's a real rock'n'roll guy!)

I'll be in touch with everyone who want to e-mail me. Rock on!

So sad, but I have to close this site now. I mean, the site itself will exist, but it just won't be updated. The reason - Geocities want me to pay for them now, so I could further use their webspace. I can't pay this fuckin' money 'cause I ain't got no MasterCard or Visa, and I don't live in USA... This fuckin' sucks, but I can do nothing about that... If someone's interested, here's my last news: I left my band ICE CREAM in November 2002, and now I just sit around all day doing nothing. :)) So, here's my last message to everyone out there: live fast, die young, sometimes check into detoxes, to clean yourselves a little bit, and rock'n'roll on and on and on. Peace, take care! Ronnie Slogun, March 10th, 2003. Everyone, who want to contact me, you can do it thru this e-mail address: [email protected]. Thanks!
