"A little History about myself"

I am a 57 year old native Mississippian, Born and raised in Mississippi. I served in the US Army during the Vietnam era (1965-1968). As is in most cases, a southern boy raised not in poverty, but so close to it that we were cousins. I have always had an interest in art and a desire to be an artist.

I thought my dreams of being an artist of any type were dashed when I discovered shortly after High School that I was color blind. I continued to express myself through pencil and pen & ink drawings, not knowing that it could ever lead to any sort of future employment. Realizing I was color blind, my next endeavor was to become an architect.

Soon enough, I discovered there were plenty architects out there starving already so I sought employment as a draftsman. After getting out of the army in 1968, I started drafting for a company in Jackson, Mississippi. I worked for a company called Mississippi Products, which was later purchased by DeSoto Inc., and became known as DeSoto Furniture. From there, I went to work for a company named Piper Industries where I did furniture design and engineering. Later, I went to work at Curtis Mathes in Athens, Texas. I was still in the Furniture design and engineering field.

In 1982, I returned to Mississippi became employed by the Army Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg, Mississippi. I started there as a draftsman and moved on to several other areas involving artwork talents. It was there that I developed a desire to do Pen & Ink drawings and realized there was a market for my talents.

I retired in 2003 and moved to the Mississippi Coast where I decided I would like to supplement my retirement income by doing more Pen & Ink drawings.

Don't let the low pricing scare you away. I gave up the idea of becoming rich a long time ago. I am sure you will be satisfied with the quality of my work as many people have told me I should charge more for my work.

As I mentioned earlier on, I am only trying to supplement my retire income with these drawings, not get rich.

I love nature, especially coastal scenes so I specialize mainly in coastal art. I prefer scenes that are natural or historic.

You will find me here along the coastlines as this is where I have chosen to reside. My work is displayed in multiple places along the Mississippi Coast.

Most of the Artwork on this site has been penned by me after retirement. I will continue to make more drawings available through this site as time goes on.

Thanks to my daughter Jennifer and her husband Dave, who are helping me utilize the internet by keeping my website updated, and thanks to you for visiting my site.

Sincerely,

Ronald W. Killgo
