The Ronins helped their injured friend back to the house. Discussing
what to do about Cora when she came back, and what happened to her.
Rowen just remained silent throughout all this, listening to
the others discuss the matter while Sage and Ryo helped him along.
"What I can’t figure out is why you didn’t put up more of a fight,
Rowen," Sage asked, trying not to be offensive to his friend.
Rowen just hung his head. Not sure on what to say.
What could he say? Oh, that was just my long-lost childhood friend
trying to kill us back there, yeah, that’s why I couldn’t fight her.
He felt tears coming to his eyes, but held them back.
Ryo noticed his friend’s quietness.
"Rowen? Are you okay? What’s wrong?" Ryo asked.
"I-I’m not sure, Ryo, I don’t know," he lied.
"Rowen, I don’t think I really buy that," Sage told him.
"Come on, we can tell when something’s wrong, Rowen, you can’t
fool us," Cye added.
Rowen closed his eyes for a moment, remembering his nightmare.
"Maybe I’ll tell you later, but not now, let’s just get back."
He said.
They all returned to the house and banished their armor and sub-armor.
Rowen had no real serious wounds, but he was still weak. He went
upstairs to his room to rest. His body rested, but his mind refused
to. He couldn’t stop thinking about Cora. Was it really she?
Or was it someone who just happened to look exactly like her only wearing
armor? So many questions. Why couldn’t he find the answers?
And what happened after she attacked him? Why hadn’t she finished
him off like she look liked she was planning to do. Rowen was grateful
that she hadn’t. Maybe she was under the dynasty’s control.
Maybe that was what the amulet was for! And she was battling within
herself, what she had done! If that was true, then she had recognized
him! Or at least the good part that was locked away inside of her
forever doomed to just look out helplessly. Rowen pondered these
thoughts.
Then Ryo came in.
"Hey Rowen, you feeling okay?"
"Yeah, I took a pretty big hit, but I’m okay."
"Listen, we’ve been noticing that you’ve been rather quiet lately.
We would like to help you feel better, but we can’t do anything about it
until you tell us what’s wrong," Ryo said, implying that he would like
to know what the heck was wrong with him.
"Ryo, I think that if I tell you, you’ll think I’ve really lost
it," Rowen said with a bit of a sad laugh.
"Rowen, we’re the Ronin Warriors, our lives have been crazy from
the start," Ryo replied with a laugh.
Rowen laughed quietly at this, and then sighed. He knew
that he would have to tell Ryo.
"Well, why don’t I start at the beginning," Rowen started.
He started to tell a story of friendship, and loss.
