Return of the Forgotten

Chapter One

"This is so stupid! We're never going to find them," Aunica(On-ica) whinned, entering the brig of the Silver Pheonix spaceship.

"You're just one big ball of sunshine, aren't ya, Nicy?" Andron joked, playing with Nicy's shoulder-length, green-black hair.

Aunica's green-blue eyes narrowed at him, "They don't even exist. We're just wasting our time." Aunica, the pilot of the Silver Pheonix, had a hard time believing in anything that wasn't right in front of her.

"They do to exist!" A medium sized girl with big blue eyes snapped. She had chin-length, sunny blond hair that she wore in a half ponytail and her right bang fell over the corner of her eye.

"The Ronin Warriors are nothing more than a story told to children around a campfire and you know it, Capricorn."

"Aunica, that's enough." Ember, a young man with wavy aburn hair stepped between the two girls. "If you would rather return to Pluto and get yourself killed fighting, go ahead. But don't take it out on Capricorn."

Aunica nodded. "Captain's pet," she mumbled as she passed Capricorn on her way out. Capricorn didn't notice, she was too busy thinking of a time years ago.

"Your assignment for next Monday is to describe your family, not just how they look, but how they act and the role they play in your life." Mr. Horo ignored the chorus of groans from his seventh grade students. Only two
students didn't groan, they just exchanged looks of total misery. Ryo Sanada and Capricorn Hino had been placed together in the back of the room by sheer coincidence, but they became close friends. Probably because no one else
would hang around with them, the orphan outcasts.

The bell rang and students poured out of the school. Ryo and Capricorn, or Capri as he called her, were stopped by a boy with flaming red hair.

"You know, I envy you guys. Yeah! I mean you two don't have to do the assignment. Why is that again? Oh yeah, you don't have families to write about!" He broke out laughing along with several other kids in their class.

"Darion, could you be any more of a jerk?" Capri asked glaring.

"Ooh, big words for a constellation."

"No, I don't think so," she answered her own question and continued down the steps.

"Don't let him get to you, Capri," Ryo said as they walked home. "Besides, they can't make fun of us now. We're not family-less anymore."

"Really. 'Cause last time I checked, we were." Ryo smiled and pulled something out of his pocket. The gold locket shimmered in the sun. Capricorn openned the golden circle to find a picture of her and Ryo in it.

"We've got each other," he said blushing.

"Oh, that's so romantic," she joked hugging him.

Capricorn smiled fingering her locket. The earth was growing bigger in the ship's window.

'It won't be long now, buddy,' she thought. 'We are way past due for a family reunion.'
