Shrine to the White Cup

The White Cup is a phenomenon seen in the room of an eccentric late-teenaged girl. It is very rarely noticed, but when it is, it brings to mind eternal questions that probably never will have a real answer, like "why are things the way they are?", "what is the meaning of life?" and "why would anyone tie a plastic cup to their curtains?" The White Cup stands for eternity, for truth, for reality... and other stuff.

You may be asking yourself, "What is this 'White Cup' that the author speaks of so grandiloquently?" More likely, you're asking yourself, "What the hell is she talking about?" because chances are, you don't know the word 'grandiloquent'. Regardless, I'm talking about, in Amanda's words, "that friggin white plastic cup ... hanging from [my] windowshades".

This is a phenomenon to be experienced and not just told about. Since I cannot at present show you the White Cup (unless you're in my room right now, which is possible; if so, just ask me to show you), instead I will show you pictures.

In this picture of the corner of my room, you can see the White Cup in the top left-hand corner.

For those of you having trouble seeing it, here is another picture of that corner of my room, with the cup set off in a red border in the top left-hand corner of my room.

At this point, you may be wondering, "Why would one hang a white plastic cup from one's curtains? What purpose does it serve?" The answer to that question is: Damned if I know. I put the damned thing there when I was little, I don't remember why, and it hurts my brain to think about it. It's one of those things that just is, and you will eventually learn to accept it.
