Hi, Iam originally from Tredegar having left there 20 years ago. I went to Tredegar Comprehensive school. I am looking to get in touch with any old school mates that may know me. I linked into your web site from Brian Gardeners. I have not explored your site too much yet but if first impressions are anything to go by I think that I am in for a treat.
Happy New Year to you and anyone else who knows me.

forte/church organ by local professional musician the late W. J. R. Davis A.R.C.O. Bournville Terrace. The late W. G. Griffiths was producer of pantomime "Mother Goose" and I played for this production when it was presented in the Workmen's Hall, Morgan S

Ron,
I am tracing a family of 3 possibly 4 brothers GOODING who left their
home in Devon and spent some 10 years in Monmouthshire working in the
Ironworks. In 1861 census they are at Witton Park Co.Durham and by the
1871 census they are in Stockton -on-Tees Co. Durham, working as iron
workers in each place. The only clue I have is that some of the children
of these men were born at Tregedar and Rhymney, otherwise their
Monmouthshire sojourn is recorded on census as simply "Monmouthshire",
or "Wales". I am looking for background / history of Ironworks in the
mid 19c to provide a setting for this stage of the family's history. I
have taken the liberty of downloading the pictures of the Ironworks. My
research is not intended for publishing, but merely as a family
journal-type record for my immediate family only. Could you point me in
the right direction to collect the background information regarding the
Ironworks of that era?
Regards,
Patricia Taylor.

Dear Ron
I discovered your page this evening for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed browsing. I recognised some names from the past and some were a little misty. I left Tredegar in 78 to go teacher training in Dudley. I stayed and now live in Bishops Itching
on, a small village south of Leamington. My wife and I teach in warwick and we have 2 children, both of whom can say Tredegar know what a cwtch is and love visiting their grandparents.
I recognised your face but I'm sorry I couldn't place it in the chronology of time. Too many of my memories are only memories now or are preserved as they were so when I come home I'm unable to relate the old to the new.
My name is Keith Marshall and my parents live in Glyn Tce. For years they had the newsagents there.
I will certainly revisit the site as its interesting.

Nice site. Good to see God's country on the map. Born in 1963 at St. James Hospital, lived in Gladstone place 'til 1985 (Mum & Dad still there).
Good pic's on the district nurse. Claim to fame -- Nerys Hughes bathed in our bath!!. One scene outside our house (using "The Glen" as the backdrop required 5 retakes. Nerys got wet, cold and used our bath to warm up. Refreshed, filled with a good cup
of tea and back to it. Wonder if my mother ever got her underwear back? Left school in June '79 @ 16yrs. Any old school friends out there?. My class was "W" which formed part of the old "SCWRFA" and then "ELMWOOD" names.

Excellent Site. I was born in St. James' Hospital November 1968, my Father, George Fox, was born in Sirhowy in 1932, and lived in Charles St? (I think) with his brother Alan and Sister Thelma. He moved to Ebbw Vale (Rassau) when he got married, where I li
ed until 1994, until moving to Nottingham to study.
You've put the people of Ebbw Vale to shame with your excellent site.(I cant seem to find any sites about Ebbw Vale). I'll have to design one myself.
Keep up the good work.

I have just seen views I haven't seen for over 50 years when I used to visit my mums family home in 72 Glyn Terrace. My mum, Annie Hiscott (nee Stock) is now dead as is my father Oswald from No 1 Sunny Terrace. I often ask people what Tredegar is like. Ju
t last week I was telling people how I used to sit in Glyn Terrace, sketching the Weslyan Chapel, watching the pit gear turn. My head is so full of memories of this most wonderful land of my father's. I tell people in Birmingham of the 'School Walks', the
town clock, the cinema - where I seem to remember tea was served along the rows during the interval, Morgan's the butchers, where mum worked for a time and most of all the Italian Ice Parlour by the clock. For some reason I have a distinct recollection of
an enamel plague with '5 Boys Chocolate' somewhere near the square. Is there a hugh lump of coal in the park, a Coronation Street, a bridge over the railway lines. All these things are just memories of very many trips.
I want to climb again to see if No.1 Sunny Cottages is as close to the sky as it seemed. As I write, the smell of coaldust, wet bog with moss fills my nostrils. I long to sense again the glow as the furnace doors were opened in Ebbw Vale. How much of this
is true I don't know, but to me it is very real. Was there a stone that rocked, did someone grow the biggest cabbages in the world, was Aunty Mary Hollybush the headteacher, or Blod the Maerdy the postmistress? I have no one to ask about my family. What I
do know is that although I live in Birmingham, the place where I was born in 1942 my heart is Welsh, my singing voice is Welsh, my desire for God is fashioned by the spledour of Wales, the silence and the noise, the colours and the variety.
What a gem of a webiste - thank you.

My mother was Jean Eileen Green, born 20.11.1932 at 49 North Avenue, Tredegar. She had 2 brothers, John Erasmus and William Leslie and 2 sisters, Barbara Mons and Joyce Alithia.
My grandparents were W"illiam Arthur Green, born 13.7.1893 at Alexandra Place & Eleanor Burr, born 4.9.1898 at 44 Park Row.
William Arthur had 3 brothers and 3 sisters. His brothers were: Benjamin who emigrated to Australia before 1920, before the 1st World War, he had children in London & Banbury: Ross who also emigrated to Australia, prospecting for gold, Ross had a son, Rob
rt of 72 Park View, who was an Ice Skater for Great Britain; Thomas :Leslie was born 1899 at the Post Office, 21 Alexandra Placve, Sirhowy, he also emigrated to Australia with Ross & Benjamin. He returned to Tredegar and lived at 57 Harford Street, Sirhow
and died in October 1968. He had 2 sons, one was named Robert, who was born in 1947.
William Arthur's sisters were Elizabeth(Lydia/Bella) Isobel who was born in 1896. She married James Arthur Strawley on 22.12.1923 at Dukestown R.C. church. She lived at the Cartref Aneurin Bevan Home, Ty Gwyn Hall, Pertholey, Crickhowell. They had a daugh
er; Mary Eileen; Margaret Florence married James Yarnton of Penarth.
My great grandparents were Erasmus Green & Martha Lewis. Erasmus was a county court clerk and they also ran the Sirhowy Post Office in 1920.
Erasmus' father, my great great grandfather, was christened at York.
My other great grandparents were George Burr, born 1880, a Coal Miner & Annie Evans. Besides Eleanor, they also had 3 sons and 6 other daughters: Ernest was born in1896: Alfred(Fred) had a son named Ernest: James Sidney was born at 49 North Avenue.
James Sidney had 6 sons: George was born in 1935/36 at 49 North Avenue and lived at 15 Mafeking Terrace. George had a daughter: James F. lived at 4 Maes Glas and he had a daughter: Garfield was born in 1914: Bill(Larry) was born in 1925 and died in 1977 i
a mining accident: Alfred died in 1980 and he had a daughter; Ernest.
George Burr & Annie Evans' other daughters were: Gladys who was born in 1900: Margare(Maggie):
Ann who had a son, Sidney, who lived at Old Barn Way, Abergavenny; Rose who married George Smith, they lived at Morgan Terrace and Maggie lived with them. Rose & George had a son, Trevor, whose wife was named Gwen; Gwen married Jack Amos and they had a so
, Jack (who lived at 97 Glyn Terrace) and a daughter; Adeline(Lena) was born in 1903, married Ralph Vickery and they lived at Newport.
My great great grandfather was Thomas Burr, born 1860.
My great great great grandparents were Albert (Alburn) Burr who was born in 1840, a Coal Miner & Emily Morris. Albert emigrated to America, leaving Emily to raise their sons, Thomas, Isaac and Charles. They divorced and Emily then married Daniel Lewis.
Charles Burr, born 13.10.1868 at Picton Street, a Haulier, married Eliza Jane Rogers, (born 1870 at Nrew Pils Street) on 27.9.1890 at Bedwelty church. They had a son, Cyril, who lived at 14 Brompton Place.
Eliza Jane Rogers' parents were George & Jane Rogers; George was a Collier.
(My mother married a William Terrence Rogers, strangely enough).
I wrote to several Burr's & Green's in 1985 and received some touching letters with very interesting information, which has given me the above family history so far. I imagine some of those contacts will have by now passed away som I am hoping someone wil
read my "signature" and reply with further news, i.e. names, dates of births, marriages, deaths, sites of graves, further generations, address', etc., anything that I can add to complete the "Family Tree".
You may e-mail me at "[email protected]", telephone on 01291 626977 or write to "Mrs.K.A. Collier. 41 Maple Avenue, The Triangle, Chepstow, Mon, NP16 5RG." I look forward to any news.

Could you drop me a line telling me about your Harding line. My Hardings go back to 1854 with Fannette Harding being born in Swansea. She married Francis Fish and then Charles Hall. I beleive she could be the daughter of Henry and Maria Harding. If so
she had a sister Emma and a granddad Henry.
Can you drop me a line going back as far as you can. My Hardings moved to Abertillery, Cwmtillery, Llanhilleth etc. It is possible someone in the family moved to Tredegar.
Thanks

I love tredegar, i love the winding streets, thwart with devolution, yet still remaining majestic. Seeing pictures of old town tredegar makes me remanisce about days of yore far gone by.
I may become great, I may have allthe fame in the world for my up and coming natural based products on the British market. But.... I will always be at home in tredegar, as it is the only true home I have or ever will know. Fagin McChod

Davis families) I am new at this research; if you would have any info on a family of Mary M. Harvey
(my grandmother) who came to America. I would appreciate hearing from you. I also enjoyed your pictures and scriptures on the religion. It is refreshing to know there are others who are interested in Our Loving God. Thank you, Gerri

Hello: My great grandfather was William George Harding born in Wales in 1876- he came to Pennsylvannia as a four year old. He work in the Alden Coal Mines near Wilkes-Barre, Pa. I am trying to learn about the Harding name in Wales- do you have any know
edge of the Welsh Harding surname or areas of large family groups- I was raised Welsh-American as my mother was a Evans. I have learned that the name is of Danish-Viking origin and has been used in on the isle since the early 9th century- I have also
oticed that there are French- Irish- Welsh and Anglo-Danish Hardings.
Any leds or help would be great. Thanks
