FOG BOUND

At the time he painted this Damon was 33 years old, he was an angry, opinionated and confused cynic.  He was working as a painter and decorator and he was decorating my house.  We talked about politics, art, classical music and Jesus Christ.  I told him that I was a Christian it Intrigued him and we talked about it for many hours. During this period Damon painted this picture and he told me that he felt like the man on the right in the brown coat and cap.  The heads are all bowed each person is wandering meaninglessly in a thick fog and there is no sense of direction or purpose.  The colours are drab and depressing the only person looking up is the man in the brown coat and he is looking for direction and a meaning to his shallow life.  The artificial street lighting is having little or no effect on illuminating the scene.  It is a tragic depressing view of life and it is also true that it is typical of the view that many people share of life.  For an amazing contrast take a look at "The Last Evening"
