SUMMARY: This video contains advice from 18 individuals who have lung
disease. The advice emcompasses a variety of topics including exercise,
physician interactions, pulmonary rehabilitation programs, warning signs,
nutrition, proper breathing techniques, smoking, religion and support
groups.
The video is intended to motivate the severly disabled lung
disease patient who does not realize how much can be done to help him. It
also has helpful information for the lung disease patient who desires to
take a more active role in his care and for the individual who is still
smoking and who does not yet feel the shortness of breath that
characterizes more advanced lung disease.
It is estimated that there are thirty million individuals in the United States alone with lung disease.
The video was created by an individual who was diagnosed with emphysema 11 years ago. He selected those interviewed on camcorder for the video from his wide circle of internet acquaintances with lung disease who live in the eastern half of the US and who are doing especially well at living with lung disease.
An internationally acclaimed expert on pulmonary rehabilitation who has authored several books on the subject, Thomas Petty, MD, is featured in a short introduction to the video.
