The chlorophyll fluorescence phenomena and everything else web site.

This page is an effort of the Fluoromatics programming team.

Fluoromatics is a young software company located at Geneva, Switzerland.

Why another page about fluorescence?

Chlorophyll fluorescence is the main subject of my Ph.D. research work at the University of Geneva. I guess you are here because you are also directly or not interested in plant fluorescence, so I want to share with you ideas and knowledge, compiled software and source code, links, and documents about a scientific field that is becoming an important tool in plant research. This “fluorescence business” started already in 1931 with the work of Hans Kautsky. In the last 20 years (we are 2005 now) fluorescence became an important source of incoming for several manufacturing companies from Europe and USA. The commercial side of fluorescence shows a typical “rise” as well as its fast induction curve. It seems that in fluorescence everybody checks out for a “maximum” and a “minimum”. Many scientists believe these points are really important. Everything else looks like more or less irrelevant. This website is dedicated to show that many aspects of fluorescence are very useful and perhaps much more informative than some points in a curve…

Today, there is a big mess in fluorescence due to intra-scientist “conflicts” on such subjects like how to measure, what kind of machine to use to measure, which method is valid, how to interpret the measured points, how to term a point, “D” or “P”? “Open” or “closed”? Sometimes the answer is a question of interests, influence, power… It looks like being masterly and masterful in fluorescence are both a tough matter :o) In this website we focus only in the scientific side of this exciting research field. Here, while we consider fluorescence forget about politics and money. So, relax and let’s fluorescence!
