Photos of Church

For those of you who have never heard of Church, Church is a rock face at Sugarbush that crazy people try to drop in the winter. The secret location is only known by locals who don't want to disclose it, though if you're observant, you'll notice there aren't very many large rock faces at Sugarbush, at least ones that aren't on trails on Castlerock. There is an interesting legend/story that tells how the cliff got its name. The story goes that while the Long Trail was being cut, the workers noticed a rock face on the side of Lincoln Peak, which would later become Sugarbush South. It was as steep as a church steeple, so they named the face "Church". I have managed to find a few pictures of it. You could find a lot of things snooping around the image directories on the Sugarbush Website, when that resource was available at least. Hopefully there will be more to come.

This is a picture of John Egan on Church.

This is a shot of Church, probably from the Heaven's Gate Lift.

This is a shot of Church, from right on it.

This is a shot of trees, presumably not far from Church, somewhere in between 3 trails I won't name, in order to keep the location secret. Actually, probably everyone looking at this site knows where Church is. Oh well.

These next few images are of views on, around, and from Church.

This is a picture of Church taken by Daevious on 10/12/03. Thank you for his permission in using it on this site. Click the image for a larger version.

This is another picture of Church, from www.delawareonline.com. For some reason they labeled the picture as from Sugarloaf, not Sugarbush. it's a good picture nonetheless though.
