| This photograph was taken by the crew on board the Columbia during its last mission having our very Kalpana Chawla as Mission specialist. This photograph was taken via satellite, on a cloudless day. The picture is of Europe and Africa when the sun is setting. Half of the picture is in night. The bright dots you see are the cities lights. The top part of Africa is the Sahara Desert. Note that the lights are already on in Holland, Paris, and Barcelona, And that's it's still daylight in London, Lisbon, and Madrid. The sun is still shining on the Straight of Gibraltar. The Mediterranean Sea is already in darkness. In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean you can see the Azores Islands; below them to the right are the Madeira Islands; a bit below are the Canary Islands; and further south, close to the farthest western point of Africa, are the Cape Verde Islands. Note that the Sahara is huge and can be seen clearly both during daytime and night time. To the left, on top, is Greenland, totally frozen. So what do you say now, isn't our earth a pretty planet, so take care of it, Save Earth! |

| a s t r o n o m y; facinates me since my chilhood when I used to spent those sleepless night under the chilly winter sky just to have a glimpse of rising Morning Star (Mercury) with my tiny telescope. Well, like every little toddler I wanted to land at ISRO or NASA as AstroPhysics specialist but left the place open for those long bearded scientists who were still searching for new Solar systems for last 98 years. Well, anyways, this is the platform where I would interact with the whole world about my "new" discoveries, so keep on visiting on regular basis and I promise you some "extra-terrestrial" life out there... |
